*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

On dumbbell bench I can pick up 150's and go to town though because I can turn my elbows in a little.

Going to start lifting with my son. He's 12, so we're not doing any squats until he reaches his full height. Thanks for the links to the starter workouts. I think I'll take a look at some other options to work arms and core a bit more. Mostly, I just need to stick to my walking regimen. The boy, on the other hand, needs to have a passion for lifting cultivated. He plays football and wrestles (and golf), and for the fall I really want him to have plenty of muscle on him to protect his inner organs and skeleton.

Good for you man, he'll thank you for it someday. I wish my dad would've got me into the gym when I was that age.

He should probably just stick with golf. The potential for earning good money longer is greater.

The golfers diet is very strict, but effective. I think it calls for a variety of different fast food meals each week. You need to go to different ones because getting the beef in different forms helps with fat production. Also, you want to avoid lifting weights because building muscle limits the range of motion golfers need. Also, make sure to avoid stretching exercises so that when a tournament starts out bad he can have a good excuse to not continue, that doesn't involve admitting playing poorly.

This type of commitment is diffucult, but the rewards will be great.

He can do squats. Just keep the weight low and do high rep with concentration on form. This will help him when he is older and can go full effort as he will have the muscle memory of a proper squat.

Completely agree Omaha, our CF gym has some great trainers. It would NEVER happen here either!

If you care about your barbell bench going up, watch Tate's 5 video series.

If you just want to take your shirt off and look like you bench alot, just do dumbells and lots of flies/pec dec.

So I go to LA fitness for the sole purpose it is walking distance from my work. I've trained there for about 2 years now.

Roughly 3 months ago I was doing squats in the squat rack and made eye contact with this guy. Didn't think anything of it, until he is right in front of me while I am finishing my set. Mind you I still have the bar on my back and he asks loudly "If I have a ****ing problem". I say "Ughh no."

He then asks what the **** am I looking at then. I just laughed and said "What" he continued to get in my face, and I got upset and told him to **** off and get out of my face. Quickly a employee of the gym stops the confrontation and thats the end of it.

People at the gym were like wtf is that guys problem yada yada. One of his buddies later on comes up to me and sort of apologies for how his friend acted and said he has issues and that he is 16. Mind you he is about 5'8 and thick. Like probably around 225 pound a lot of muscle. I honestly thought he was around my age or maybe a few years younger.

So I just told his friend dont worry about it, its not a big deal. Well today I went to the gym and he was there with his chronies. I noticed him staring at me multiple times, but just ignored him. On my way out of the locker room, he happened to pass by with his chronies, obviously was staring me down, I just smiled and as I passed by he says "bitch" and does one of those pro wrestling "Wooo's"

Honestly I hate to say it, but he drives me nuts, in my younger days I would of done something, however I have a great job and a lot of other reasons why I dont smash his face with a brick. Any advice for this jobber?

I used to get hungry every four hours like clockwork. I'd start to shake and feel weak if I didn't get some food in my system ASAP. On this diet, I've come to realize how easy it is just to not eat. Lately I can go to the gym 8 hours after a meal with no problem.

Now I have even less sympathy for fat people.

A few months ago I bought my usual ON whey protein mix but they had a buy one get one sale on some casein so I picked up a couple containers of that as well. I tried it for the first time today and it tasted like Christmas morning.

I've never used casein before so I'm curious as to whether or not I'll feel or see a difference.
