There’s certainly a sweet spot there where you’re going out and playing football, but what you’ve been coached to do and what you’ve been taught to do in your fundamentals is take care of protecting the football. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some times when I’ve gone out there [with the game manager mentality]—and it’s never been good. You don’t ever want to go out there saying that. You don’t ever want to go out there just saying you’re not going to turn the football over. You’re out there to execute an offense. People can look at it however they want, but for me the goal is to score points as an offense. You can put up however many freakin’ yards you want. The goal is to score points. And with that, yeah, protect the football. I watch a lot of football, and not just the NFL, and you see teams just giving it away. It’s hard enough to win football games when you’re not giving it away. For us, it’s not about being conservative. We’re trying to score points. Can we do a better job of that? No question.
So he doesn't go out there with a game manager mentality. He goes out trying to execute the offense and score points. That's all well and good.

But from his play on the field - and even his comments about avoiding turnovers - it's clear his conception of executing the offense is hugely influenced by avoiding turnovers and risk.

It must be Chiefs homerism and Red and Gold Colored Chiefs glasses that lead some Chiefs fans to think that the talent on offense is anything beyond Average.

Put behind that, an average at best oline, with a average to slightly over average qb, ad Voila! Crap salad.

But no no. Please, lets all focus on just ONE position.

LOL.

Let's say the talent on offense is average. The performance has been well below that in the passing game.

Couldn't possibly have anything to do with the quarterback, though. It must be everyone else on the field. All colluding together. And the coaches are in on it, too.

FACT: Give Alex Smith a great running back, a couple of good receivers, a great tight end, great offensive line, elite defense, and good special teams unit, good coaching, and a good game plan, and he's an extremely effective quarterback.

What QB's do you know that do it alone. Pretty sure Aaron Rogers has pretty damn good receiving core and Ms. Manning's isn't bad either.

Forget it with that guy, all QB's have to be a superhuman capable of overcoming any and all problems singlehandedly, if they're not a top 5 player at the position... they're not worth having.

Now, if we had the rookie who shall go unnamed, he'd breeze us right through the playoffs and into the big game, because, you know... rookies can do that and not waste this great start.

Holding back? Doesn't make sense.

So, to this point, the offense has only been giving 80% effort?

Eye test says about 40% at most.

No one ever said anything about doing it alone.

Sorry if it's all strawmen in black and white, but no one has ever said anything that's even remotely close to any of that tripe.

So go ahead and explain the nuance.

Oh yes, ALL of that shit has been said in one way or another 10,000 times here... so does Axl get atleast some benefit of the doubt from you because of the receivers, tight ends, line, new team/scheme or not? Because all i ever see is those factors being swept completely under the rug.

Nothing matters to some of you... plays, drives, the record, none of it... you don't like the guy, never will and wont hear a single argument to the contrary.
