"Official" 2011 St. Louis Cardinals Thread

This is so unreal. We were dead. No hope. A season over. Somehow, someway we find some team chemistry and squeak into the playoffs on the last day of the season.

Only to find us facing one of the best pitching staffs assembled in years with home field advantage. We somehow, someway find a way to beat the best pitcher in baseball on the road in an elimination game.

We have to go on the road and beat the team with the best home record in baseball. A team who mortgaged their future to make this run .We somehow, someway find a way to beat them on the road and make our 18th World series trip.

We take game 1, we give away game 2 and home field advantage. Albert goes off for probably the best performance in World Series history and we take game 3 easily. Games 4 & 5 our bats fall asleep, Phone gate happens and its not looking too good.

Game 6, one of the best baseball games of all time and it takes place in a season ending go home game. Cardinals are down 2 runs in their final chance on the season, twice. They are down to their final strike of the season, twice. They give up a 2 run homer in extra innings. In the bottom of the inning their final 3 batters are a combined 3-26 in the Playoffs and a pitcher because the bench is empty. Somehow, someway they get some runners on and the comeback player of the year drives in the tying run. Mr. Freese hits the walk off home run. We will see you tommorrow night.

Game 7, With our bulldog on the mound pitching on 3 days rest he is able to give us 6 good innings and get us to within 9 outs of our 11 World series title. Texas meltsdown, probably left over from last nights game and its over.

The underdog, come back team who had no business even being in the playoffs wins a World championship. They make movies about events like this in life. Events that you remember even if your not a fan of the sport or team for the rest of your life.

When it is your team.......Priceless

Jon Heyman was tweeting earlier that there is a lot of skepticism that Pujols is actually 31 years old. Said no one may top the Cardinals offer because of it.

Pujols was my favorite player since Gibson. I was in favor of paying Pujols the big bucks. You were overpaying for the last years but I figured they would make the money back because Pujols would be nearing breaking records and people would be nostalgic to go see the great Pujols one more time.

I don't fault the Cardials front office. A offer of 9-10 years for a total value of $210 million was a great effort. We can afford a top ten payroll but we can't hand out mega deals like LA/NY. It would cripple the clubs future.

$44 million isn't small money. Pujols has earned the right the right to take the most money. He deferred money without interest, was active in the community and charity work. We won 2 World Championships during his time here.

He said he wanted to be a Cardinal for life. Best fans in America. Why would he want to play anywhere else? Wellll now we know $44 million will change his mind. How many of us would turn down $44 million? You can change your families fortunes for generations. Transform the shanty towns in the dominican. Free will. His choice. I honestly think I would have left the $44 million and been happy with $210 million and forever being an icon to an adoring fan base.

I was a Cardinal fan before Pujols and will still be after his playing days are over in LA.

We have a Cy Young calibur pitcher coming back and 2 potential #1 starters coming up to the big show by 2013. It's still good to be a Cardinal fan.

$44 million is a drop in the ****ing bucket all things considered. What is the real difference between 315 million and 360 million?

It's not always about the money for everyone. Pujols set himself apart as being different. He was a ****ing liar, and he should always be remembered as such. He deserves no standing ovations upon return, a right to accept his ring in front of the fans, a statue, or a retired jersey.

That's what $44 million bought him, the cost of his legacy in St. Louis.

**** him and **** his slimeball agent.

Although I can be persuaded to go over to the dark side and hate. Not going there..............right away anyway.

I just don't like judging peoples motives. I want to hear how Pujols explains that the $44 mil was more important than a legacy and going against what he had said in the past.

McGwire has rightfully caught a ton of shit for PED's and his handling of the situation etc....

But he also realized a shit ton of $ is a shit ton of $ and he was happy to stay where he wanted to be for less $ then walked away from a deal because he felt he couldn't play up to the level of the $.

He obviously is not the level of player of AP and he used PED's but he wasnt a greedy bastard and you never questioned his motives however misaligned they may have been. He loved baseball and he loved Stl.

AP just proved his motivator is purely $.

It's on STLtoday also. I guess thats what passes for a "reasonable" contract these days.

Hopefully, Greene finally shows his potential at the Big Show. Maybe with TLR gone he will relax a little more? Nur, I'm not holding ny breath.

I think they should make a fair offer to Prince. I know he's no Pujols but it would put us back to one of the NL favorites again.

I'd rather overpay a little for two years of Furcal than they overpay for 3-4ys of Rollins.

No thanks. you are going to overpay for Fielder.

I like turning Freese into a first baseman. Or maybe Craig. Get rid of the logjam at 3B. At least give it a shot during spring training.

Take the Pujols money and sign Molina and Waino to long term contracts.

See if you can get Beltran for at least a over priced contract instead of a wayyyyy over priced contract. Maybe he wants to win now and will want to play for a winner instead of the one with the biggest checkbook? He can play right while Craig is out. Move to Center or right depending on how Craig or Jay or doing.

Trade Boggs or McCullean for bullpen help.
