Earvin Johnson adopted the name Magic when he was 15 years old and essentially made it his first name. Marshawn Lynch took the beast mode term (which was used long before he showed) and blew it up after his playoff run against New Orleans. The term "Beast Mode" was taken from the 1988 game Altered Beast. It's just extremely generic and bland.

I mean I'm all for stupid nicknames, but the marketing is a little annoying.
