Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Smith did his part to get the 9ers there two years ago...

If this were a 3rd or 4th pick, and we get a guy in the first it's a beautiful job by the FO. Such a high-second for him I think is where the real issue is.

I am upset they 'pulled' the trigger before they even saw Barkleys pro day.

QB's play well into their 30's. He's got another 6-7 years in him if healthy. And the age of the QB has nothing to do with winning super bowls.

He is just starting to blossom and he is still young as far as NFL QB's goes. It's much better than taking a gamble on a college QB (in a down draft year for QB's) and keeping your fingers crossed. You now have a QB that can make you a better team from day 1.
Dude, just stop.

You've won more Super Bowls in the last 30 years than we've won PLAYOFF GAMES in 40.

Your team has won as many playoff games in the last two years as we have from 1971-Present.

Your team sucked from about 2003-2010. Before that you were winning playoff games with Steve Young, before that you were winning Super Bowls with Young and Montana.

You know what this team has done in its last eight year period? I'll tell you:

10-6, 9-7, 4-12, 2-14, 4-12, 10-6, 7-9, 2-14.

You know what it did the seven years before that?

7-9, 9-7, 7-9, 6-10, 8-8, 13-3, 7-9

How many playoff games did we win in that period? 0.

How many games did we go to in that period? 3.

How many NFL records did we set for futility in those games? 2.

You're a guy who burned his hand on a toaster oven comparing the injury to a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11.

Draft QB, build to win championships, not trade for someone else's backup, and go for 8-8.
This, over and over and over again.

Too many people get wrapped up in the name, "Geno Smith" when it's not even about him. It's about the philosophy.

I have to admit I didnt see this coming. I thought the Chiefs were finally done with the retread thing, you know with the new regime and all.

New regimes usually like to draft their QB of the future. Now they may still do that, and Alex may just be a stop gap, but that seems like a lot to give up for a stop gap. But FWTW ALex Smith is an upgrade over Cassel.

Is that the kind of thing you're into?

Clearly you have no moderators on this board....not to mention members with class. Keep it up if it makes you feel better. But tomorrow you are going to wake up and Alex Smith will still be your QB. And that makes me smile.

The problem with taking a QB to build, is that the Chiefs already have a bunch of pro bowlers. What if it takes 3 years for Geno to become a good starter and when he does, the rest of the team is on the decline?

What if Alex Smith sucks? Actually, just take the what if off of that, because it really isn't a question. We're no worse off with rookie x.
