Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I will agree with the Niner fan who posted on the previous page. Alex Smith was the most argued about player probably in 49er history. Some people were enamored with him from day 1. The #1 pick. What was supposed to be our franchise QB. Sure he was thrown into a team that had pretty much zero talent and was coached by complete numb skulls. He had his share of injuries as well. But he proved with some stability around him, he can be a good option at QB. He will never be great. And quite honestly unless you guys somehow pull a rabbit out of your hat and end up with a top 10 defense, he will never lead you to the super bowl. But do you honestly think you guys were headed to the SB within the next 3 years anyway? Get real. And this Geno Smith character that has some of you guys duped into thinking he is a franchise player possibly worthy of your #1 pick? That is insane. I feel bad for you guys that you have the #1 pick in such a weak draft year as far as high profile potential elite players go. But trading out of it may not be a bad thing. You might be able to get that second rounder and a few other picks out of it. Who knows. What I do know is that you are not in the worst position in the world. Smith can get you guys at least to respectability. Other than Denver, your division is terrible. And you are one Peyton Manning injury away from being division contenders.

Don't say that Trent Baalke or Jim Harbaugh raped you guys with this deal. Because clearly, you consented and bent over at the same time. We'll take that extra 2nd rounder. The deal surprises 49er fans just as much as it does you guys.

Just give Smith a chance before you jump ship. It won't be as bad as you think.
These people have been licking some guy named Geno's jockstrap for so long, they are suffering from a dry tongue. They'd much rather have an unknown guy and lose rather then have a guy that has proven he can win with with a strong running game behind him. Can't blame them, though. I mean, Alex is not a franchise QB, but he's better then nothing.

Where is it that Colquitt signed a new 5 year deal?

So his 1-14 performance on third down wasn't a factor? I'd argue it was a much bigger factor in the loss than that play.

I'm good with that, as long as they don't give him some asinine number that doesn't allow them to cut him in 2015.
Told tonight they aren't restructuring it or doing any extension..yet.

Jackson's cap number is either going to vanish or come way down - like in the 13m range. With Cassel off the books at 5.8 in cap savings, Smith really is only adding about 3 mill to the cap from the QB stand point.

Chiefs have plenty of room. Although, I really doubt Albert gets done now. Beatty's contract is way out of whack and the market for him is going to be higher than the Chiefs are going to want to pay.

Your team sucked from about 2003-2010. Before that you were winning playoff games with Steve Young, before that you were winning Super Bowls with Young and Montana.

You know what this team has done in its last eight year period? I'll tell you:

10-6, 9-7, 4-12, 2-14, 4-12, 10-6, 7-9, 2-14.

You know what it did the seven years before that?

7-9, 9-7, 7-9, 6-10, 8-8, 13-3, 7-9

How many playoff games did we win in that period? 0.

How many games did we go to in that period? 3.

How many NFL records did we set for futility in those games? 2.

You're a guy who burned his hand on a toaster oven comparing the injury to a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11.
The bold are all of your winning seasons. Look back at the 49ers from 99 to 2010. We had 2 winning seasons. 2! Yeah our franchise had success in the 80's and 90's but that did not make losing feel any better than what you guys are feeling. Trust me.

You have the best coach in the NFL with a young (drafted) stud at QB. San Fran has always tried to win the right way.

The Chiefs have used the same failed formula over and over. You don't have a ****ing clue what you are talking about.

If we can fool Dwayne Bowe (Which isn't hard), then that's the only good part of this...

Even Branden Albert is just kind of saying "Just give it a chance". I think Albert knows Alex sucks, but he doesn't want to believe the truth.
