Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I'm happy about Mahomes, but Smith's limitations wasted four years of our time and four years of the careers of some pretty good players.

I'll never say it was a good move, because I'll never believe four years of empty wins with no real upside or threat to win are anything to be excited about.

Who would have been a better QB for us to get the past 4 years.

Dorsey and Reid have done a great job regarding putting the best player available at the QB position.

we basically wasted the last four years and now we are finally doing what we shouldve done when we had a real chance...our team was pretty damn good....if we wouldve hit on a risk QB pickup we may have won more than 1 playoff game...

what wouldve been the downside? The only real downside i see is not breaking the playoff winless streak...

I mean that is arguable as to whether that was worth it but who knows what couldve happened had we tried a riskier QB situation...

So yes, i stand by ploy as the proper term.

I'd have rather seen us TRY and fail (like we may do with Mahomes) than accept our fate as playoff fodder. Are we supposed to be happy with getting early exits from playoff games?

I agree with this. It's a hit and miss in the draft but if you don't swing you strike out anyways. That's how its been for the Chiefs just stand there at the plate and look at the ball cross the bag.

Hate this line of thinking. Nothing more than an excuse. There are any number of QBs that could have led our offense for the last 4 years and not cost us nearly as much money as Alex has.

so bring the time-traveling DeLorean around, and let's fix this!

I'd rather see us make good decisions. What the hell kind of logic is it to rather try and fail than to correctly evaluated prospects?

Missed one one QB in 4 years. Not even a first rounder that everybody clamors for. I'll take those odds.

Tell me how you would have handled the past 4 years. I'm all ears.

Again, Derek Carr was an easy choice. He was available and what highly regarded. It wasn't a Dak Prescott situation where nobody saw him coming. You draft a quarterback like Carr and you're ****ing set.
