No Charges in Wal-Mart BB Gun Shooting

Apparently the Dayton PD trains their officers to murder people.

A special grand jury called to review evidence in the fatal shooting of John Crawford III, killed by police in an Ohio Walmart while carrying a BB gun from store's shelves, decided today that no officers involved in the shooting will be indicted.

Surveillance video from Crawford's shooting—previously unavailable to the public—shows Crawford walking around the store while talking on the phone, with the BB gun at his side or on his shoulder. The disturbing video then shows an officer rushing toward Crawford with his gun drawn before shooting him.

Though the special grand jury reportedly considered charging the officers with murder, reckless homicide, or negligent homicide, WHIO reports the jury ultimately decided not to indict the officers involved in the shooting, finding their actions were justified.

Vince Pope, attorney for the officers involved in the shooting, released a statement following the decision:

"I believe the grand jury's decision, it's absolutely the right decision, that the officers acted well within their training."

Derrick Foward, president of the Dayton Unit NAACP, also released a statement:

"The Special Grand Jury in Greene County made the wrong decision. It's a sad day in the history of Dayton."

Foward added the NAACP will call for a complete investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

First, just because something is legal doesn't mean it's a good idea to do it. I suspect it's legal for me to wear a KKK robe out on the street, but it's a stupid thing to do it. You're just inviting trouble, and that's what these people are doing.

Second, it's stupid to associate yourself visually with crazy mass murderers. You may believe that you're perfectly sane as you stand there with your rifle. But guess what? There are people who have done exactly what you're doing, and then they started shooting innocent people. The potential downside of ignoring you is high, and the downside of either fleeing or fighting is low.

Third, you damage the credibility of your whole philosophical position by doing dumb stunts like this. If your goal is "show the public" that people can carry guns and not shoot people, see Point #2 above. It's never going to work, and it just makes people less comfortable. If I have a gun, I'm comfortable. If the stranger 10 feet away has a gun, I'm uncomfortable. That's how guns work.

I support the Open Carry people's right to do what they are doing, but I would never do it and I don't think it's the most productive way to advance your viewpoint.

Your arguments are the same as those which are forwarded in the intramural debate among 2nd amendment advocates, by those who would only carry concealed.

Oh, I get it now. See, I was really confused because I KNOW you're an intelligent individual. I'm not condoning racism in any way, shape, or form. I'm not even condoning the trolling (although I think it's hilarious, and always have). What I'm saying is, until you've lived your life in a constant state of fear everytime you're around people who you help pay to protect, and serve you, then you really don't have any idea of what it's like to have too go through that. You don't have to care, be compassionate, or anything else. Just remember that when it's YOUR rights that are trampled all over, don't condemn humanity for being the same asshole that you are when they don't give a **** about you.

It's funny to me too. Let me throw one more thing out there. I believe wholeheartedly that 95+% of cops out there are good guys. I've NEVER had a bad encounter, and I've had some contact with police over traffic stops, neighborhood drama (that's never included me, but I've been witness too) and once I was even stopped and frisked because I "looked like a potential suspect". But only an idiot, or someone with an agenda would see everything going on these days and think there's no problem at all.
