Drew Brees

With the slight restructuring of Drew Brees's contract, the feeling is that this could be his last year in New Orleans. They have to make a decision to either keep him or let him go in February. If the Saints let him walk, which is a good possibility, should we make a run for him?
My vote is yes. Now I know he isn't the long term answer. But with all the pieces we have in place, I believe he could be the missing piece to getting us to the SB. He wouldn't have to throw it a ton like in N.O., but at least he's a threat to throw, and could when we needed him too. Kelce would be an instant superstar at TE, and we would have someone who could properly utilize Maclin's talents. Charles wouldn't be up against 8 man fronts anymore due to Bree's threat to throw. And the defense could actually have some time to rest on the sidelines, keeping them fresh. Now I know he isn't the long term answer, but he could definitely help us make a run with all our other pieces in place. I say, sign him, draft QOTF to sit behind him for a year and dump Alex, and make a real push for the SB. More than likely, no Manning in the division too, perfect timing.

If they had an offense worth a shit they could really turn that defensive line loose in obvious passing situations.

They've got a decent stable of RBs with potential and a few perimeter weapons along with Cook.

Wait a minute, they didn't even give up much to get Foles, did they?

Didn't Philly send the Rams Foles and a 2nd or something for Bradford alone?

Nick Foles signed a two year contract extension worth $24.5 million with the Rams on August 8, 2015. Foles received $12.02 million in fully guaranteed salary upon signing the contract and a total of $13.7 million in guaranteed salary. The guarantee is made up of $5 million in bonus money in 2015, his 2015 base salary, and a $6 million roster bonus due in 2016. Foles can earn up to $4.5 million in performance incentives and can void his contract in 2017 based on playing time and performance.

His 2016 salary becomes fully guaranteed if he's still on the Saints roster in February....so the Saints will need to make that decision quickly after the year ends.

He has a 30m cap hit next year after his restructure and it's the last year of his contract, too...and the team saves 20m on the cap (which they already have 156m committed to players for 2016)...so it's highly likely that the team moves on from Brees.

What makes the most sense is a team trading for Brees in January.

I don't see any team that would trade for Brees with that contract....and only for one season.

I'd say the Raiders would be prime candidates for that trade but they may have found their QBotf.

We'll see how the season plays out. They've had a cake schedule outside of the Bengals.

There are always parameters for a new deal in place before these trades get done. Take Alex (15.6 cap hit this year) and Daniels (4.8 cap hit this year) money and give it to Drew Brees and June first cut Alex if you can't trade him by then.

They're gonna have to cut him anyway, I doubt it would take more than a 2 to get him.

i know that's a lot for an old QB, but we have a win now team.

The Dolphins are basically Chiefs East.

More specifically, Dolphins fans issues with Tannehill are damn near identical to ours with Alex Smith. Tannehill is young, though, and he's on an extension right now.

I don't think they can carry a Brees contract as well as that horrible Suh contract. They'd be spending, like, $40m for QBs in one season.
