I'm sure Belichick had a huge hand in Weis' offensive gameplanning on a weekly basis as an assistant coach.

Am I the only one thinking that Weis took this job not to help out KU but to stick it to Haley in his own backyard?

Sounds exactly like Gunther: "I told Carl, he'll never find anybody that will work as hard as I do".

The proof will have to be on the field. Although there shouldn't be any more losses to South Dakota or close calls against N. Illinois.

Apparently, he had some pretty severe demands ...

According to sources close to the program, Weis agreed to take the job only if several conditions were met. One of these were that, from now on, KU will be referred to as the "Jayhogs".

So I've had about 8-10 hours to contemplate the Weis hire for KU and I've come to a conclusion...

This is a enormous hit for both KU and Shane Z.

Charlie Weis knows football. As recently as 2010 he lead the Kansas City Chiefs into the playoffs in the NFL with an absolute horrid QB. Just look at Cassell's stats minus the year that Weis coached him. The numbers are a joke. Cassell is terrible and he's most likely seen his late game in a Chiefs uniform. Did that stop HCCW from making him appear "pro-bowl worthy"? No.

The University of Kansas was beating VT in the Orange Bowl four years ago. Although the talent may not stack up to the other teams in the league at this very moment no one can deny that the coaching abilities of Turner Gill and his staff were perhaps some of the most atrocious that modern day college football has ever seen.

Watching the players play even an untrained eye could see that the athletes on the field were much better than the stats that were being put up on the board.

Does this mean that in HCCW's first year KU will be going back to the BCS? Of course not. But there isn't a doubt in anyone's mind that this coach, and the staff he will be bringing in will instantly get more out of the players than the previous regime. Want proof? Just read this:

http://kansas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1299647

KU Football has basically been non existent for the last two seasons. Is Turner Gill to blame? Yes. Is Turner Gill a bad guy? No. It was simply a case of KU's former AD taking a chance on an up-and-coming head coach and he simply wasn't prepared for the onslaught of challenges that the Big XII would bring.

If the rumors of other coaches being brought in are true (Jim Leavitt and Tim Grundhard) you can expect an instant reversal in perception of the KU Football program. These recruits know HCCW. They remember seeing Kansas take home a trophy on college football's biggest stage. Already the speculation of players transferring due to Gill's departure are being stomped out. Could any other coach that was available bring back a program so quickly? Hard to say...

It's obvious that many KU fans were excited and pulling for the Mike Leach hire. Leach has shown that he simply isn't ready to take on the big time competition that is the Big XII in his first foray back into coaching. Oklahoma, OSU, Kansas St., etc are all proven national powers at this point and getting Kansas back to the level where they can beat these teams will be no easy task.

Is HCCW just taking the job as a stepping stone to something greater? Probably...but so what? In order for Weis to get back to the level in which everyone believes he wants to be (NFL head coach) he is going to have to prove himself and Kansas is the perfect place to do it. If the grand scheme really does involve Leavitt becoming HC after Weis departs then that's just more to get excited about as far as KU fans go. We won't know if this is indeed the case until later this year when the 49ers are eliminated from the playoffs but it's no secret that Leavitt is desperately trying to get back into head coaching. KU is a great situation for him right now. A school that has seen such bad football the last two years that any semblance of a competitive team will instantly energize a hungry fanbase.

Is this Leavitt's job to have? Maybe. And if so one can't think of a better play that AD Shane Z has made.

With a bball program that carries the institution to the 2nd largest endowment in the conference it is confusing to think that he could land such a high profile name as Charlie Weis. Does Weis need a HC job? Sure. Does KU need a competent HC? Obviously.

After giving this a lot of thought throughout the night every conclusion comes up positive for the AD. He could have missed badly here. Doreon, Cotter, Phulmer, all would have been disastrous hires if you speak to anyone in the KU Football fanbase. The boosters put the money up to get KU Football back where it belongs. Charlie Weis is a dynamic first step for an AD who still has a lot of work to do in athletics.

The KU base is excited. Recruits are no longer talking about transferring. There is already talk of KU having the inside track on Texas for the services of Dayne Crist.

KU fans have seen a rough couple years as far as the football team is concerned but I have a gripping feeling that everything is about to change.
