Every once in a while i hear a story come up. Apparently, the old man used to REALLY REALLY hate badgers and milk weed. Enough that if he seen milk weed on the side of the road, he would pull over and pull the damn things outta the ground.
But the real story is the time he found a badger in a pasture. he chased it down on foot armed only with his pliers, and just as it climbed into the hole he grabbed it's back leg with the pliers. So here's the old man, in the middle of a pasture, swinging a damn badger in circles in the air trying to keep it off him while screaming at mom to bring the tire iron so he could beat it to death. Mom said she was laughing so hard that she forgot the damn tire iron. What a redneck. |

i was home from college for a couple days, and my old man had somehow gotten ahold of some blasting caps. the women had all gone to town, and he was itching to blow one up.
so, they had this clothesline thing in the back yard with the ends made out of some kind of metal pipe welded together into "T" shapes. one of the ends had an old sparrows nest in it. so pop decided to rig that blasting cap up in the pipe and blow the shit...err...clean out that nest. so, he rigs it up...and put the wires to a battery and BOOM!. blew the flaming nest out of one end and shattered the other end of the pipe. ****ing shrapnel flew everywhere. one piece went into the back of his arm. i helped him up and took him out to the garage so he wouldn't bleed all over the house. dug the metal piece out w/a needle nose pliers. he said, "we're gonna have to figure out a lie to tell your mom what happened to her clothesline." sec

told her he clipped it w/the front end loader of the tractor.
as for his arm, we told her he tripped and fell into a board w/a nail sticking out of it out in the garage. she didn't believe either one. sec

My pops passed away on January 13th. He was 81, I was there when he died.
This is my first Father's Day without him. I was thinking about him when I woke up this morning. He took me to countless Royals games, and all the Chiefs home games. I've only missed about six home games since 1967. I have my 50 yard line tickets because of my pops. In 1985 I was able to take him to Game 7 of the Royals-Cards Worlds Series to pay him back for all the games he took me to as a kid. I'll always remember our night together watching the Royals win a World Series. We knew then it was once in a lifetime, and we both jumped around like little kids when the Royals won. I wish I could have had another Chiefs Super Bowl with him before he checked out. He was a loyal Chiefs fan right to the end. I miss him more than words can say. |

My father close fisted punched me in the face when i was 4 and left me bleeding from my nose and mouth when i tried to break up a fight between he and my mother. Not the fist time, nor the last, that he put hands on me or mom.

My Dad would be 90, if he were still alive. I miss him everyday, and cherish the time I had with him. Just an absolute prince of a man.

whenever my folks came up to visit, dad would always have to make 3 or 4 trips to town each day. just run in and get 1 stupid thing. at the time, it would piss me off...i hated what i thought was a waste of time when we could be doing something else.
now that he's gone, i really miss those trips. sec

My old man and I don't really get along swimmingly. There's always been some sort of strange rift there. We don't have a lot in common. He can't stand sports, for one thing. We can't work together any longer because he can't do things as well as I like. But I love him and respect him and would do anything for him because I know he'd do anything for me. Had a scare earlier this week where he spent the day in the hospital - doc thought he might lose an eye. They still don't know what is causing his headaches but at least his eyes are fine. Dude is in his early 60's. Should have some time left.

My dad taught me things like how to mow, light the bbq grill, and fix a bike (thanks, dad). Didn't see him much (3-4 times a year maybe) from the time I was 13 when he and mom got divorced. I held that against him for a lot of years after that and never was able to get "really" close to him. He died 2 years ago in May, 5 days before his 68th birthday. But I still loved him and I miss him now.
I know I am not anywhere near a perfect father. But I hope that I am doing ok. I feel that I learned some valuable lessons and that I'm trying to spend good time with my kids and teach them well.

my dad used to smoke vantage cigarettes.. a buddy of mine was over and had some...
dad: hey darrell, can I bum a smoke? darrell: sure... dad: got a light? darrell: want me to smoke it for you too? dad: no, but if you stick around, I'll let you put it out. I still miss my dad, and he's been gone 26 years. It still saddens me to think he never met my kids, and vice versa...at this point, all i can do is try to honor him in how I raise my kids, and live my life. I like to think he'd be proud. Hell of a man. RIP pops. |
