Former NFL star Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his jail cell early Wednesday morning, according to the Massachusetts Department of Corrections.

As has been noted - the evidence in the Lloyd case was overwhelming. If there's money anywhere to be had, the civil attorneys will still be able to secure a civil judgment.

Again, I am just a caveman who's scared of your modern ways. All I know is that in Mass. If you had an appeal pending at the time of your death and after conviction the case reverts to it's original state of implied innocence. The guy I was listening to was from The Boston Globe and said it makes a civil case much more difficult to win.

Because his murder conviction is in appeal, and his recent gun charge will go into appeal...now that he is dead, those appeals cannot be heard and those convictions will be vacated. And while this doesn't help with the civil suits his family/estate will face from the victims families, it does make it so that officially Aaron Hernandez does not have any convictions under his name.

Now what that means in the grand scheme of things is his family is now technically entitled to his NFL pension, his signing bonus and any other money the Patriots owe him. Thus, Hernandez convictions will be vacated now, he is no longer a felon and is owed his nfl pension, his signing bonus and more money that will all technically go to his family.

I doubt that signing bonus does; wasn't he suspended indefinitely? I'd have to think that, if nothing else, conduct clauses would kick in that would trigger on any breach of contract action. Or it would get treated like a retirement where any 'unearned' bonus can be recaptured.

Then pension's an interesting animal, presuming it vested.

The first season had me hooked. I'm about halfway through the second now. I'm not liking that basically all of the main players from the first season are... wayward.. but it looks like they're coming back together soon.

I've heard season 4 is, like, best shit in TV history type stuff so I'll stick it out.
