Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT
Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

No and I don't think he will get that. I don't know that it's what hes asking for either.

I don't really give two shits about Albert to be quite honest. He has kinda got ****ed here by previous regimes with weight loss and awful QB play. Some try to make things here more difficult talking about the OL, WR's etc, when in reality, with average to above average Qb play, we are .500 team.

I don't blame him for wanting to get paid either. We have a new regime, he obviously doesn't fit, so it is what it is. I think he will be better in Miami with Tannehill behind him than he was in KC.

I expect our 1.1 LT to be a top 10 player at his position from day 1, with the chance to get better, otherwise it was a pick that could have been used on another position upgrade.

But again, you avoided the question. I didn't say anything about contractual stuff, but about your continual speak about injury history hyperbole.

Agree.

And Alex Smith isn't geting a huge contract extension, at least not yet. I'd assume he needs to prove he needs deserves it first.
Reid thinks he fits the system. Apparently Albert doesn't.
And he is worth it because he is the best QB out there this offseason.

Honestly think Reid thought he was the best guy to win now and he didn't like the QB class, so it's possible he decided to roll with it despite the injury history.

Albert is different. I think it's pretty obvious they think Luke Joeckel is better than him.

I'm not the biggest Albert fan, but a 3rd would be bullshit. They better hold firm on a second at least.

Sure, I'll bet paying Albert like a starting LT would just cripple the franchise, so much so we will draft at best a comparable player at 1 overall to save money for some player to be named much, much later.
