Ten percent. Everytime. Never anymore. Unless its at a place im a regular and get really good service. And everytime I tip, I immediately regret it and wished I tipped zero dollars.

I tip well in clear tipping situations, with the obverse that I rarely if ever tip in non-clear tipping situations.
Carry my bags to the room, here's a 10 spot. Open the door I'm going in, **** you I have hands and arms. Good service at a sit down meal, here's 20-25%. Hand me a cup of coffee, **** you. Never tipped at Sonic, but then never ordered a meal over $3-4, usually just 1 burger, 1 order of fries. They want a business model where every car sits at its own drive through 'window' fine. Don't act like walking an order out to where you want me to park is some fancy service. Similarly, I think I am both a pain and a joy to serve at sit down restaurants. I usually want my food very specifically. Like at Steak-n-Shake, I want honey mustard for my fries [BTW they have the best honey mustard]. If a salad doesn't have onions, I'd like a few added. Very detailed about how done I want a steak. OTOH, I have some small form of OCD where I can't just leave my table like an asshole. Stack all finished dishes in a manner that is easy to pick up and put it at the edge of the table, empty drink glasses subtly moved to the edge as well to indicate a need for refill without being pushy. Take a napkin to table and remove any detritus and put napkin on top of finished dishes. All condiments put back away in proper holders, menus properly stacked and folded, etc., etc.

I'm not a big fan of places you clearly do not need to tip having a line for a tip on the CC receipt after you pay

I worked at Sonic in college and those girls were insufferable. They did NOTHING (while us cooks busted our asses), whined all day and got into petty arguments, made the same wage as us then on top of that walked out with $20-$40 in cash. They weren't even the ones who took your order, they had a position for that.

The two of times I've gotten Sonic I went through the drive thru. If you get the car side pick up, is it one drop off and they never come back? I wouldn't tip for that. If they are coming out checking if you need your drink refilled, then I'd say that warrants a tip.

So Sonic sucks? The commercials with those two intellectual dudes make it look hip.
Who knew?

Their drinks are full of crushed ice, too. You could wring more moisture out of one of those wet napkins that KFC used to have than you get in Sonic's Route 44 fountain drinks.

I tip too much. Yes I'll give the girl a few bucks, sure. But I don't eat there.

at sit down places I always tip 20% minimum. if it is really shit service, I usually tip up to the next whole dollar. My thinking is a tip of 79 cents sends a more clear message of "**** you" than no tip at all. They could confused that I am a cheap bastard rather than a pissed off bastard.
