Question about Brees/Franchise Tag

Can't any team now make Brees an offer to be the richest QB in NFL history and if the Saints don't match it, they have to give up a 1st and a 3rd and a new team gets Brees?

I don't get why the Saints wouldn't just pay him to be the richest QB ever on their own if they really want to keep him.

I think a team like the Chiefs or Broncos or even the Niners who don't have a top first round draft pick would immediately offer Brees a contract.

Am I wrong about this?

Sorry if this has already been discussed, I'm usually around here all week, but new job, no internet for me anymore.

Our O-Line is shot, our D-Line sucks, We don't have a #1 WR anymore. Our Secondary is getting long in the tooth.

The Chargers somehow still have a small window to do something, and signing another QB is about the stupidest idea ever.

I know it's just a joke on your part, but this is a further in depth reason behind why I don't want Brees back.

Yeah but if you let Rivers go we could start countless numbers of threads arguing if we should pick him up.

From this Charger fan's perspective, Brees is the biggest cock tease/ ass tickler in the history of the NFL.
- When he was drafted, he couldn't beat out 'Lil' Dougie Flutie.
- When he was finally made the starter he was the suckiest QB who ever sucked. He threw balls behind his WRs and "led" the Chargers to a 4-12 record and the first pick in the draft
- The next year the dirty bastard turns around and plays awesome and gets them to 12-4. (Schottenheimer blows it in the playoffs as usual).
- Then the little ****er goes 9-7, out of the playoffs, and screws up his elbow on the last game of the season prior to becoming a FA.
- Finally a FA, he gets a nice big fat contract from NO, leads them to a SB (3years ago) and now wants to be the highest paid QB in the NFL.

The Saints should be leery on making that happen.

On the record, I'd rather have Rivers over Brees...

I didn't realize it was two firsts. I thought it was a first and a third for some reason.
Exclusive is based on the top five salaries over the last 5 seasons, including the current year. Meaning 2007-2012.

Non exclusive would average 2006-2011.
