Chiefs announce Bray as the backup QB

http://arrowheadaddict.com/2016/05/2...p-quarterback/

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid made a surprising declaration on Tuesday afternoon.

The Chiefs are still a little more than two months away from the start of training camp in St. Joe’s, but we already have some very interesting news on the depth chart front.

Reid has proclaimed that Tyler Bray, not Aaron Murray or Kevin Hogan, is entering training camp as the primary backup quarterback to Alex Smith. Murray was a fifth-round pick back in 2014 while Hogan was a fifth-round selection in April.

Despite being an undrafted free agent in 2013, Bray has stuck on the roster but never appeared or been active for a game in the regular season. He was placed on injured reserve last year after sustaining a torn ACL in a pickup basketball game.

Bray has all the physical tools you could want. He’s 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds and at 24 years old, might finally be seizing the moment after sitting behind Chase Daniel and Murray.

It will be fascinating to see if Bray can hold off Murray and Hogan in camp, not having thrown a competitive pass in two years.

Somebody’s got to be the No. 2, so he’s the No. 2 right now,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “We’re trying to get as many reps with each one of them as we can, but somewhere you’ve got to distinguish them.”

Bray said he was told last week that he would open OTAs as the No. 2 quarterback.

“Nothing’s locked in,” Bray said. “We still have a lot of time to go until the preseason.”

Reid agreed, adding that Bray’s seniority
— he joined the club as an undrafted free agent in 2013, while Murray was taken in the fifth round in 2014 and Hogan was taken in the fifth round this year — played a role in the decision to start him out with the second team.

“That’s kind of it,” Reid said. “He’s been in here the longest of the three.”

“It’s as wide-open as you can get,” Reid said. “None of them have experience.”
"Kind of it" is an odd statement at best.
Either way absentee seniority gets him put higher than someone that has been practicing week in and week out like Murray? That doesn't seem fair without something more behind it.

That's your perception. Reid didn't indicate it was anything other than a seniority issue.

The bottom line is that Tyler Bray needs to take advantage of every single snap this preseason because the Chiefs have the least amount invested in him, making him the first guy to be cut if he's equal to or underperforms compared to Murray and Hogan.

Right now it is merely conflicting stories and we don't truly know which one is completely true.
It makes no sense to let Bray have the #2 just because he has been on the squad longer. Murray's being on the active roster along with being in all the meetings and practices should have out weighted Bray at this point, but that is not the case.

It makes "sense" because it's just OTA's. They're in shorts. No one is going full speed.

As Reid said, it's wide open. They're all getting snaps.

Being #2 at this point means absolutely nothing.

Dane is so ****ing funny.

Bray gets an extension...means nothing -Dane

Bray named the backup....means nothing -Dane

...and Dane's reasoning is because the other two lesser options were drafted.

That's it.

LOL... Bray will take start a game for this team and Dane will say it still means nothing.

Keep it going Bamb...I mean Dane.

And everyone keep doubting.

Makes sense for them to go with Bray. He knows the playbook the best out of the three (at least you'd think so with him being here this long), he has the best tools, and he honestly doesnt have any more leash to be given.

Time to shit or get off the pot. He's going to be given the best surrounding cast over Murray and Hogan, and if he doesn't show that he's vastly improved since day 1 or at least show some significant promise, I dont see them keeping him. Murray shouldn't be far behind, the job is his for the taking imo.

Common sense.

Please leave, there is no need for that here.
