The skill position players haven't been this bad since Gabbert's last year. They don't do Mauk many favors when it comes to getting open and breaking plays the way LDW, DGB, and Lucas could.
Still, the biggest problem with Mauk will continue to be his tendency to make poor decisions with the football. He's probably going to have a game where he tosses 3-4 picks. Overall, that looked like a pretty good team win on a day where the passing game couldn't do much to move the ball. Offense is still capable of big plays, but they haven't shown the ability to sustain long drives, which points to a lack of consistent execution. If that tightens up, they can contend in the East, but only if it tightens up.

Nothing against Mauk, but I can't wait for Lock to get to Mizzou...

Mauk is way too small to ever be a pro prospect. He'll be at Missouri for the next three years. In a lot of ways, that's great, but after his first year, I'd really like to see what Lock could do. I think he's going to be a legitimate pro prospect, and he won't have Yost around to ruin him.

We have a sophomore QB at the trigger who leads the country in TD passes and total TDs, and he's doing it with very ordinary WRs. He may well become the best QB in school history. Can you imagine this guy with Maclin, Coffman, Rucker, and Saunders?

Stephen McGee? You mean the Stephen McGee who threw 28 TD passes in his 40 game college career? I don't see the comparison between him a sophomore who has 19 TD passes in 13 career games, so you may need to expand on that.

Mauk is tough as shit and is capable of throwing a beautiful ball. But his mechanics are unorthodox--at least, it seems this way to me--making it difficult for him to have a repeatable, consistent delivery.
This worries me a little in terms of his ability to reach his full potential. |

TD passes can be subject to some pretty wonky variance. Cassel's 28 TD season is a great example of that.
