You have to be patient, and you have to understand what you have," Cunningham said. "We have a young strong safety and rookie corners playing out there. It's a difficult thing to pull the trigger. A couple of years ago, when I had Mark McMillian, it was tough for me to play certain zone defenses because I knew he couldn't play them. That makes it hard.

"I'm trying to be as patient as I can to develop the team. It's a difficult process to go through."

Here it is in black and white, Gun has stated he is trying to develop the team. How long will the bitchers on this board allow him to do so.
My guess is about no time at all. <BR>

I don't have any problem with developing this teams young talent.
I am getting a little tired of developing a coaching staff.

Last Sunday's loss was not due so much to the young personnel on the field as it was to poor offensive and defensive coaching.

As Bob Dole stated earlier: Bob Dole would have accepted the loss if we'd continued the defensive strategy that held the Titans to one TD over 3.75 quarters and our youngsters had gotten burned for the TD. Instead, we went away from tactics that had been successful the entire game.

That ain't the young players...it's the situation the young players were placed in by a defensive idiot.

So Bob how did the Coaching miss the saftey and how many sacks.

Gun is 1yr and two games into developing a team. You people would have fired Dick here in St. Louis. The year prior to last the Rams looked far worse than the Chiefs are right now.

Yeah, but that's the Rams. People expected them to suck asss until last year. Chief fans are used to competitive football year in and year out.

Gun has been a coach in the NFL for 30+ years. He should've been able to step right in without so much as a hiccup from the offense OR the defense. If he had the ability (or were allowed to) assemble a decent staff, all he would have to do is set the starting lineup, give pep talks & cry like a little girl ala Vermeil.

OK, he's got the crying thing down pat!

Gun got a team that was respectable (not counting the illegal stuff) and turned it into crap with the help of FA and CP.

CP is attempting to load up with younger players, however, if you get the young players, let them play.

Look at Aikman in Dallas, he came into the NFL and sucked for two years. Where did he go from there?

Should KC suck for a couple of years or just be mediocre for a four or five years and still not get the high draft picks?

I say go with the youth and let them learn their trade at the NFL level.

I agree with Bob Dole. My biggest fear is not that we don't have the talent but that with the right coaching decisions we could easily be 2-0.

We only gave up 14 regualtion points to the team that was in the SB playing on their field. That aint bad, but why change up the defense with 3 minutes to go? Make them beat you playing your game, not theirs.

My biggest problem however is the bull headed idea that you are going to prove a point by running against an 8-9 man front. That is just plain stupid.

redbrian-

McNair is a scrambler and a great athlete. He escaped the safety and several sacks by sheer athletic ability. It is misguided to blame the DL for not getting the safety or sack when they pressured McNair all day long. McNair did not have a good day passing the ball, nor did he light it up with his scrambling. He was thoroughly contained for 57 minutes. Our D also stuffed George at the same time. It was a great job.

Our Offense clicked when we actually threw the ball against the stacked line. We marched down the field and scored a TD. Then our brilliant OC abandoned the pass and returned to the up the middle rushing game that had already failed to start the game. The Offense did not sputter due to dropped balls or INTs. The players were not at fault. It was the fault of the OC, plain and simple.

In fact, despite the escaped safety and stupid play calling, we were up by 7 points with 3 minutes to go. We knocked the starting QB out of the game and in came an immobile backup.

Did we continue the aggressive, attacking Defense that had held the Titans down all day long?

Did we go after an immobile QB who was not in the rhythm of the game?

No, we went to the soft zone with THREE minutes remaining in the game. We know that even the most lackluster NFL Offense can move the ball downfield against a soft zone because OUR Offense has moved the ball downfield against the soft zone.

The Titans game was lost by Schottenhiemer. He single-handedly threw away a great Defensive performance. BTW, it was not the first time. He did the same thing against New England and only the intervention of a friendly goal post saved the Chiefs from his gutless betrayal.

Do not blame the players for the Titans loss.

I agree with with you again, Gaz. When Clemons knocked McNair out of the game & on came O'Donnell, I thought to myself
(then yelled it out loud while laughing), "My God. They're going to kill that p-ssy"!

Needless to say, I was rather disappointed at the outcome.

I agree,

When you knock the opposing team's QB out WHILE you are ahead, you should not get worse when the back up takes over.

I have to agree with redbrian's development assessment here. I mean look at all the wonderful work that Gun has done thus far.

1. He has single handedly developed not one but 3 different fullbacks into NFL running backs. This development has resulted in a wonderful statistic of 57 carries for 136 yards.

2. Gun is RE developing the team into the image of a 1960's football team. This development has resulted in the reduction of many tedious passing plays that only slows the game down. Also, this development has resulted in the power running game you see plow into those 9 man fronts for a yard or two. They're not going to stop that!

3. Gun is developing a new language all his own. Im not sure exactly what kind of language we could call it, maybe the ramblings of the sleep depraved, sounds good as recently proven when asked about Elvis' development, Gun referred to Elvis growing facial hair.

Gun is also making strides in other areas that could someday re-define football today. The terms offense and defense seem to be almost reversed on Gun's football team. One could even argue that they should be reversed in Gun's overall scheme. The Defense as the scoring, opportunistic, risk takers that are relied on to win the game. While the offense could be considered merely a team that holds the ball and runs the game clock to zero.

Yes sirree, I can see how this is coming around. Good job, Gun. Thanks for your new vision and version of 'football', Gun style.
