Is it easy to add a HDMI, DVI or S Video card to a pc?

Do they even make cards to add vidoe outs to PC's? I bought a new 24" widescreen that has HDMI and VGA inputs. My PC

only has a VGA output.

I have added memory and swapped out a dvd burner in a pc before. I have read that HDMI greatly improves the quality.

yep

1. do you have integrated video (in motherboard) or do you have a video card that's in a slot?

2. what kind of video slots does your computer motherboard support (none,PCI,PCI-E,AGP

3. if computer has video card slot like AGP etc then you can add a card easily and pretty cheaply and usually get better performance than an integrated one.

btw the easiest way to tell whether your video is integrated is by where the video line connection is made on the back of your computer.

you should have several slots where "cards" are down at the bottom on the back of your computer. If the monitor cable connects down there to a card ..... you're golden. If the monitor cable connects up high into a motherboard port like a USB cable does then you have to check to see if you have other options.

btw ...... i just looked your computer up and it looked like it comes with integrated video as the default standard.

but it also shows PCI-E video slots has "available"

so you might have it and might not depending on the type of setup you purchased.

My 8800 GTS came with a TV-out. I hook it up to my HDTV occasionally via component cable. Looks great. Watched Jedi the other day in 1080p.

I dropped an NVIDIA card into one of my systems, and was pleased to find out that it had a component-video adapter for the card. Didn't need it, because my new plasma screen also supported a computer interface as well.

looks like Mojo is gonna have to open his computer and see if he has a PCI-E slot or not ...... that's really the crux of the matter imo.

adding a video card is simple if you have a slot for it

it should say in your computer book IF it gives you good enough manual that actually shows your motherboard layout.

btw you should only have to open the one side door on the computer

but alot of computers that are pre-packaged don't

it should look something like this:

the PCI Express card slot is not alway blue ..... but it's usually a different color

the regular pci card slots are almost always white

if you ahve the little pci-express slots, but not the big, one you can buy an adapter i believe

I just got off the phone with Jason (aka Jayander) from the HP Tech Support.

He says I have integrated video and a PCI and PCI-E slot.

He gave me a link to the exact specs.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...reg_R1002_USEN

So how do I narrow my search for the right card? When I entered "HDMI PC video card" quite a few different products showed up.

I'm guessing you have a pretty small case? So you don't want to buy a video card that's going to be too big. Some of the newer cards are GIANT bricks.

This might fit your needs:

By the way, while we're having this conversation, does anyone know of any laptop solutions for TV-OUT? Preferably component or HDMI.

Unless I did something wrong, I believe that all of these are HDMI capable, and will work with your motherboard.

Thanks for the tips all.

Taco and Gochiefs replies are cool in that I have been minor adversaries on a few topics in the past. It is nice that they are offering advice.

Kind of makes me feel like PC in the PC - Mac ads where they decorate the tree and PC dogs Mac out wih the lights.

Must be the Holiday spirit!

(Taco - While growing up my Dad owned a few Taco Johns franchises in the KC Metro Area. It would have been easier for me if an antiChief poster would have been called Taco Bell.)
