My grief is a vast wellspring from which an infinite river of sadness flows.
I sit in the sports bar
My world is shattered
My baby back ribs mock me from the plate
Their death served a purpose.

Next to me a woman cheers
She wears a star and I think she's a witch
She knows nothing about football
Because she cheered at all the wrong times.

My server asks if I want more
I tell her no
I've had all I can handle already
She looks at me funny and walks away.

We win some battles but it never matters
We lose every war
I feel like France
And football is my Germany

I wanted a milk shake
But I won't get it now
Any pleasure will be lost now
In the pain that is a missed kick

The woman beside me cheers
They're showing a replay
She thinks they scored again
Now she's confused

Lions fans arrive for the late game
They nod knowingly
We are brothers in life
Working around the house in January

I put on my coat
And walk out beneath the replays
While Cowboy fans cheer
I disappear into the night.

I'm not sure. The little thought bubbles above her head were about the same color as the ceiling, so they were hard to read.

It was funny that she kept thinking the replays were real, though. On one series, the Chiefs were backed up on about their own 20, and they showed a replay of LJ's touchdown to the left side. She was pointing at the screen, going "Oh, no! OH, NO!"
