Just got back from watching it. My knee-jerk: Whedon knocked it out the park. 2 1/2 hours of pure awesome. Each character had a "moment" and Whedon did a wonderful job of building character moments as much as could possibly allow. The end battle really did a nice job of building and building and creating real tension.

Michael Bay and several other action directors could learn a few lessons here. Nobody cares about nonstop CGI action for non stop CGI actions sake. Make the characters, situations and people seem real and the action will have real value and stakes.

Just a really fun, all around well written action flick. Great fun.

Funny thing is, with all the effects shots and battles, the only part that stood out to me as being obviously-CGI was when Captain America swung through midair to get from one part of the engine rotor to another. I thought, "That was bad, he looked like Spiderman" (as the CGI in that film was bad).

I think the only real nitpick i would have with the movie was what we talked about before. It was shot flat in 1:85 to 1 and felt a little confined to me. This movie was screaming out to be shot wide. Odd because all the other Marvel movies were shot wide??

But the action scenes were pretty well done.

Yeah, I don't know why Disney supposedly insisted with Whedon that it be Flat. Luckily, that actually makes it look even better on my IMAX screen.

I'll bet there are a ton of theater owners not too happy about having to run Dark Shadows over Avengers this weekend in IMAX.

Damn this is making a LOT of money. 200 million dollar weekend. Wow

As a said before, overall a good movie but I basically just consider it an appetizer to The Dark Knight Rises (The Avengers is just the salad, while The Dark Knight Rises is the filet mignon).

This isnt a diss at The Avengers(its an enjoyable popcorn filck) but lets face it.... Nolan's Batman is just on a different level.

Still haven't seen it yet, having problems with the new owner of the company I work for not paying invoices in a timely fashion (I'm a month behind on bills because I haven't been paid for work I completed weeks ago; I'll leave it at that), but I have a few bucks left on a gift card so I'm going to try and catch an early matinee showing in the next couple of days. As many as it takes for them to tire of raking in cash hand over fist. The way this film annihilated the box office this weekend, it doesnt look like they will be stopping anytime soon.

Why complicate shit?

You can either have some halfassed movie where the plot of the film is Tony getting back to Earth (yawn) and maybe having some type of throwdown with some character we've never seen before (bigger yawn) Or you can just have the Avengers kick ass and go on about their day so that it sets the stage for Iron Man 3 to be wide open to introduce any one of the many arch enemies that Iron Man has in the books.

Think about it. Who would be the antagonist in a film with Stark stuck in that alien world that Thanos was hanging out in? It sure as hell wouldnt be Thanos, not if anyone at Marvel wanted to keep any shred of credibility.

I just dont see it working. Besides that, Avengers was way too cool to smear with a downer like that. Agent Coulson getting killed by Loki was big enough of a downer by itself.

when Hulk turned Loki into a godly rag doll, I verbally expressed my pleasure... along with the rest of the audience. Awesome scene. Even if it was silly.
