Alternate Coin Shapes

Coins are pretty much round, unless you count that 20-sided Susan B. Anthony or whatever. They're also pretty much flat. Flat round disks.

Why is this? I see no reason other than to make a big surface for a presidential portrait.

Why can we not have coins that serve other purposes with their shapes? For example, maybe a half-dollar could have the shape and texture of a nail file. Maybe a penny could be spherical and double as a marble for kids. A dollar coin could be six-sided so people could use it for dice (six results) instead of flipping a coin (two results). Maybe a quarter could be shaped like a little tiny cup so people could use it as a shot glass. A nickel could be long and narrow with a toothpick at one end and a bottle opener on the other.

Personally, I think we're losing a lot of functionality by sticking with this antiquated "flat disk" philosophy.

sheepskin baby.

but then i guess it would kinda make for an awkward purchase at the truck stop bathroom condom dispenser. and tipping at restaurants would be kinda weird. also you'd have crackheads trying to buy 40s with used ones. Not a great idea... just has a good ring to it.. Coindom.

Yes, but what a great conversation starter it would be if you (as a single young person attracted to women) tipped a cute waitress with a coindom. It would give you an opportunity if she's interested, but deniability if she's not.

I am also for the bar code. I really don't like carrying cash and sometimes don't put my card back in my wallet if i'm in a hurry and then I can't find it!

I'm voting for bar codes so I don't have to carry change around in my pockets.

Money is dirtier than a public toilet seat. I have no desire to use it as a toothpick or a mint.
