If you had the time to walk across one U.S. state...?

...what state would it be, and why? And would you go north-south or east-west?

Assume that you have some time off and quoting Simon and Garfunkel, you want to walk off and look for America with a handful of Mrs. Wagner's pies.

Also assume that you are in your current conditioning. Take into account climate, scenery, wild animal attacks, proximity to McDonald's, and any other relevant criteria.

1. California S-N I haven't been there since I was 4 years old and I can't imagine having more to see and such a huge variety of landscape than this. Not to mention all the pretty women.

2. Colorado S-N I love this state but have been there many times. Walking the continental divide would probably be incredible though.

That would be a brutal one. Hot, dry, and if you went from the north panhandle down to McAllen or wherever, I bet your view would be exactly the same every day.

How much time allotted for sitting on the porch, or in the diner, or on the beach, with locals and shooting the shit?

It's a leisurely walk. This isn't Bataan.

I mean, unless you choose to walk across Bataan, but that's not a state so it shouldn't count.

The goal would be to walk, look, listen, learn, see stuff, hang out, and ogle the girls, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowing down to take a look at you.

Maybe, but if was going to do it, I would have to do it before I got too old to handle it.

Thought about Hawaii but figured it would be such a short walk that other states would be better.

California. South to North. And I've never been to Cali. Just Nevada, Las Vegas.

Hope I have 2 months off from work.
