Could be a good thing, a lot of teams struggle with rookies they've never seen before. Lord knows we've seen our fair share of games where our offense couldn't hit their way out of a wet paper bag against a rook.

Ventura is gonna bring the heat. Hot rookie pitchers always give MLB teams problems when they have never seen them before, this is the perfect time to unleash a brand-new potential young stud.

I love going to work knowing I have something to look forward to in watching at night. Ventura's debut makes it all that more exciting.

Can't wait.

I'm going to totally watch this through an illegal pirated stream or some other means that would be considered less than reputable.
Just to see this kid's stuff in his MLB debut. Fastball that can break sometimes and consistently hover around 100, and some off speed stuff that is supposedly got heavy movement on it.
I do feel for Duffy though and I hope he's a huge success here because I love the dude and his attitude!

See what you have done to me MLB's Kansas City Royals of the American League's Central Division! You have forced my hand and given me no choice but to walk down that shadowy path of criminality just to properly get my wildcard race daily fix. Like all substance abuse, I fear it will not end well, and yet I continue to chase that elusive dragon simply known across all the land as "The Playoffs".

I think they probably let Yordano go 85 pitches (assuming he doesn't get blown up) and then bring in Will Smith for long-relief. That would make for a pretty good contrast. You are going from a tiny, right handed fireballer to a giant finesse lefty.

You are 2.5 gms back...and you go with an unproven prospect. I dont recall a team ever doing this before. Why not just give the gm to Will Smith?

I wonder if they want to have a look at Yordano at the ML level just to see if he can adequately replace Chen/Santana next year.

Im sure after NOT trading Santana at the deadline, getting to 2.5 games back this is exactly what they are thinking..

It's actually a smart move. There's no tape (ML) tape on him, he has an above average FB, will be on a short leash, and the bullpen is WELL rested. And Smith is in the pen for the rest of the year.
