British Open Thread...

..Thought I'd start this early, since the 1st round starts Thursday.

My favorite PGA Irishman - Padraig Harrington - withdrew today due to the passing of his father.

May the road rise to meet him...

EDIT* Here's the Official Open Website in case youse guys were interested.

So Tiger finished the day with a 2 shot lead over Olazabel and a minimum of 3 over anyone else. I believe it is going to be tough to beat him tomorrow unless the weather goes all to hell and he falls apart.

A pretty amazing stat is he's gone into 9 majors with a lead and never lost any of those 9.

The old news is that you stuck your nose in a thread with no intent to add anything of value.

This is why you find yourself in situations with other Planet members that want to flame you. Or ban you. Or just outright want to beat your homely azz into dust.

It's probably a good idea in your case to ask yourself prior to posting: "Do I really have anything worth saying in this thread?"

I dunno Jim. Woods did shoot a 71. But he was pretty much average all day. IMO he lucky that he's not sharing the lead. If he plays like he did today, especially given the playing conditions were good, he'll lose.

Well, just look at it this way, the only people tha actually moved 3-4 shots better than Woods were the ones that finished the course before the wind picked up...

Woods had not only an average day, a crappy day, if he can hold the lead shooting the way he did today... he will not be beat. All things being equal tomorrow (contenders playing w/ same weather) Tiger will lose if he only beats himself (ala Goosen - 81 on Sunday).

If the weather is like it was today after noon the game will see a lot of 71-75 scores on Sunday... (Tiger will be @ -13). If the weather is like the first 2 1/2 days - most scores between 66-70 (Tiger will be @ -17)

No it will not be because he beat himself. It will be because somebody stood up and took it. Although, I don't think anybody but Olazabal can do it.

Also, only Goosen is the only guy on the leaderboard that played earlier than any of the other contenders. Olazabal, Garcia, Monty et al, were on the same course at the same time as Woods.

I understand that, but as someone else said (possibly on the other thread about Tiger) he has been nails when leading going into the last round of a Major with the lead 9 wins in those 9 Majors. Plus this course appears to fit his game. You of course could be right.

Tiger finished @ -14 with a 70. Everyone in the top 10 other than Tigers and Couples (68) shot a 71-75.

No one stepped up just like you said, Tiger didnt crumble... and a (2) Grand Slam for the best golfer of this generation.

Round 3 scores:

Olazabal shot a 68 (was on hole 5 or 6 when Tiger started)
Garcia shot a 69 (was on hole 6 or 7 when Tiger started)
Monty shot a 70 (was paired with Tiger)

Tiger Shot a 71 on Saturday - again, all things being equal - these players would have shot the same (70-71)...That being said they only dropped Tigers lead from 4 shots to 3....

Goosen (all things being equal on Sunday which they were) shot a 74.

Nice call Carlos.

When I teed off today the last group was just coming up on nine. Woods had a one shot lead. When I got done with my first nine holes I walked in the clubhouse and Woods was walking to 17th green with a 6 shot lead.

Again, nice call.

BTW, did anybody see the NIKE commerical with Tiger playing St Andrews as an 8 year old?

That was a really fun commercial to watch.

The music sounded like the counting crows, but I was uunfamiliar with the song they used. Any of you music guys know who the artist was?
