Poop Serious poop question - Page 7

I'm usually a daily pooper, maybe once every other day. Lately I've been going 4 or 5 days at a time without a good poop. When I do finally have a movement, it's been much thinner than usual. I'm also having some pain in my lower right abdomen. Sorta have a full stomach like feeling, and more gas then usual.

My diet is shit. I drink tons of soda and eat a lot of junk food. Not overweight, but not in great shape either. Pretty much exactly at an average weight for my age and height.

Should I see a doctor? Or perhaps just make an attempt to drink more water, and eat healthier?

I second this option but with a slight change of application. Buy two 64oz bottles of Gatorade and one 14 day bottle of miralax. Pour all of the miralax into one of the Gatorade bottles. Shake and let sit for a few hours. Drink one 8oz. glass of Gatorade miralax mix every 15mins. When you are done with the bottle of mix, crack open the pure Gatorade and repeat the same every 15minutes. Don't be far away from a toilet. You will have about 4-5hrs of duecing every 15-20mins. Seems like a little bit of the overkill on the Miralax....

He's young enough that just changing his diet should prevent this in the future, but it also wouldn't hurt to chew fiber tablets. You can buy them in the orange flavor at just about any grocery store or pharmacy.

And stay away from Grape Koolaid.....it has it's own fun reactions.

Maybe overkill, but extremely effective.

He's young enough that he shouldn't have to start a daily regimen of Metamucil. Considering that young people aren't always the most diligent with taking daily supplements beyond something that will get them high, I wouldn't even suggest it as it most likely would be a waste of time. Might as well tell him to eat an apple everyday.

I'm not sure if you've read the thread thoroughly. He never had problems until he started taking painkillers. Hydrocodone (and probably acetaminophen), for a wrist surgery, that he's been on for a few weeks. He's going to be constipated until he gets off the painkillers. He won't need the Miralax after that.

And just for those wanting to know. Bowel impaction isn't just a can't poop like normal thing. It is a problem growing into obstruction. And if it can't make it out your butthole, it can work it's way back to the stomach for you to throw up a little feces out of your mouth. Exciting, huh?

It's probably the hydrocodone. Opiates slow down or stop peristalsis in the GI tract, so you probably should look into a stimulant laxative to get it going. Usually doctors give you something if you are taking opiates long term or are post op.

I got my appendix taken out and that's on the right side. I had no warning, just sudden pain.
