You're gonna have to be a little more specific on what you're trying to do.

They don't make them because you need to change the analog signal of a phone line into a digital signal that can be used by the USB protocol.
You will have to do this: computer>usb cable>modem>phone cord>phone jack

But I have $20 that says you're not going to be able to do whatever it is you're thinking you're gonna do...

My sister is in Germany and her laptop doesnt have the modem/ethernet slot.
So shes assuming a usb-phone cable will plug in and get the internet. For a twenty dollar cable i'll take a chance and see if she can figure it out. |

Ah. Then yes - you can buy a USB modem (to connect to a dialup internet connection) or a USB ethernet adapter (to connect to a cable or DSL internet connection). You'll need to know which type she's trying to connect to in order to know what to buy, but very few people are using dialup anymore, so you probably need something like this:

No, it will not do that. You can't just magically plug in a phone cord and have it translate that into internet access. There's no need to "take a chance". What you're doing requires an actual modem, which is what translates your phone signal into a usable internet signal.

If she currently has internet through an ethernet cable, then get the USB to ethernet adapter that DaFace listed.
Otherwise, you'll have to get a USB modem. But even if you went that route, she'd have to pay her phone company for internet access.

Oh, and note that she'll need some sort of internet PROVIDER to make this work no matter what she's doing. If she's on a college campus or anything like that, they might provide it for free, but otherwise, she'll need to be paying someone for internet. And if she does, they'll probably be the ones to ask what she'll need.
