super small hard drives
Hitachi's 7mm hard drives are super thin and super fast
With gadgets and laptops getting smaller and thinner by the day, manufacturers need hard drives that are moving in the same direction. And Hitachi's newest 7mm HDDs do just that, shrinking down the size while ratcheting up the speed to 7200rpm. Of course, these are platter-based hard drives, not flash drives. And flash drives are what act as storage in cellphones, iTouch Senior Citizen Editions and some higher-end laptops. Is Hitachi perfecting a type of hard drive that's no longer relevant? We'll have to wait and see what the next generation of super-thin laptops packs inside. BusinessWire via Gizmodo Last edited by Mr. Laz; 06-01-2010 at 09:27 AM.. |

Solid state drives last too long to be very profitable. Some people say they can last 10 years. That's why i don't think they are in too much a hurry to develop them. anyway ... i just thought that picture was pretty cool
