The fact that said defense has been on the field basically the whole game and put in the red zone to begin with because of 9 turnovers in two games has something to do with that.

Cassel and the offense is the primary reason that things have gone to hell.

You ask a lot of your defense when you keep giving the opposition the ball in good to great field position, and the average start for opponents have been the 43 yard line.

But look around the league.

The only defenses that are having any succes are the taems playing the weak sisters who can't move the chains and score points.

The Saints, the Patriots, the Packers are all winning shootouts.

The Steelers gave up 38 points to the Ravens.

Do some research and you'll find that yards per play and yards per game are up, and have been increasing incrementally through the last ten years.

You can not win with defense in this league anymore.
The rules are set up to favor offenses far too much to succeed playing that way.

You win with offense, and the only way to do that is by putting a QB behind center that can compete with other QBs.

And letting teams walk all over them the rest of the time doesn't really matter right? Make all the excuses you want they have severly underperformed so far this year, along with the rest of the team
