That is an idiot post.

The pass protection was fine, but Alex Smith is clearly looking to push the ball downfield more, which leads to him holding the ball longer.

The OL did it's pretty job well against a damn good defensive front, and Alex Smith did a great job of standing in the pocket, looking for plays, and making plays.

This is 100% true. After rewatching the game, his eyes are downfield a hell of a lot more often than I've ever seen. With the exception of a few plays, he is going through his progressions and the first read, sometimes the second are downfield. I am okay with a few more sacks based on this.

But on that play the deepest receiver was only 10 yards.

He still has a lot of bad habits when a receiver doesn't come immediately open.

Seriously - what the **** are you talking about?

His receiver didn't come immediately open. Had he dumped it to Wilson, you'd have bitched about him being the same ol' Admiral Checkdown we've had.

He did the only thing he could've done there to try to push the ball. And he doesn't control the damn routes - that was the call. He was looking to get the ball deeper down the field there and took a sack because of it.

That's EXACTLY what you're asking for and that's exactly the outcome that's going to occur on occasion because of it.

You're just mostly reeruned. You do know that, right? I mean damn man, you act like he should just be taking 7 step drops and throwing it as hard as he can every other snap. That play is a play that a good, aggressive QB tries to make because often times that LB will bit and you'll get a guy free in the second level to make a catch and turn upfield for 12-15 yards. That's an easy pitch and catch if the LB just follows the QBs eyes.

And yet you still bitch. Because that's what you do.

Exactly. Hence the result of that play.

And there were no "deeper" routes on that play. The deepest man was 10 yards.

Just a dude shitting his pants in the pocket because his primary read wasn't open.

No, the linebacker made a good play, 'hence the result'.

The other guys get paid to play as well, champ. Nobody's ever completed 100% of their passes. There was no 'bad habit' there, he tried to move the LB with his eyes and it didn't work. Shit happens.

A bad habit would've been throwing the damn thing anyway. Instead he saw that the jig was up, looked for a running lane up the middle (there really wasn't one) so he tucked the ball and mitigated the damages.

Sometimes you just tip your cap to the other guy. It doesn't mean Smith screwed up.

It's sad really. Clay is not objective on this subject and his opinion of being wrong on 90+% football related discussion just further proves his case.

He's just trying to push that agenda non matter what and is trying hard to get in a "win/win" situation fitting that agenda.

It's probably best for nobody to talk to Clay anymore.

Lord, you actually edited it to make it less intelligent.

What would you have had him do, Mr. Wizard? That was absolutely the right decision and the occasional result of a QB looking to make a play rather than take the first 3 yard dump available to him.

You're just all over the damn map. It's pretty solid evidence that you truly have no idea what you're looking at.

As though we needed any more of it.

Tucked the ball?

He exposed himself for a sack when the ball should have come out much, much sooner. But his tunnel vision killed the whole ****ing thing. Why act surprised and try to defend it? It's why he's been bad on third down his WHOLE ****ING CAREER.

You are drifting back into being a Smith homer after an offseason of waking up. It's really sad.

Already explained this.

Dump it to Wilson or try to make a throw on the boundary to Conley.

Anything is better than just standing there doing the pants shitting routine before taking a sack.

Might as well have been Matthew Brennan Cassel back there.

If you're not gonna throw the out to Conley in the break, yo can't throw it. That's a pick 6 waiting to happen.
