Have a friend she is finally ready to stop being abuse and divorce her husband. Any good laywers you all have used?

She wants a cutthroat. She does not have a lot of money and been hiding it because he spends it on games, beer and weed.

I think the thing she should be wanting out of this divorce is residential custody of the child. If you get residential custody of the child, and focus on that and not the other material "stuff," her and the child will have the right to support.

She will get that if she can prove that he is abusive.

I've been through two divorces (one was simple, one was complex) and am now fighting the first ex who wants full custody of my daughters. My attorney is ripping her apart, and we will win this case. He isn't cheap, but he might be willing to work on a different basis for funds, if he wins.

Worth a shot. He is in bed with every judge as well, as he used to be a judge himself!

I am fortunate enough to have been able to pay as I went. They bill you weekly according to what they do. Each phone call, filing, discovery, etc. isat a billed rate. It adds up fast. I paid over 23k before mine was done.

Any average divorce lawyer is going to be $2,000 retainer upfront, and to be honest I wouldn't want one who charged less. I went over my retainer and came out ahead in the final settlement, but there were very few things that were contested. If she files she may have to pay the court costs on top of that unless her lawyer can get the judge to order her to be ex to pay in the decree, but don't count on that. If her and him keep it peaceful and work together 3k to 5k can be expected...if it's ugly it will go up quickly.
