That's my basic recollection of it. However, I was a drunken college buffoon around that time.

He really did. You have to think it was that 416 carry season that ruined him. He was never the same after that..
Still, he ran for 3,539 yards and 37 TDs over a 2-year span. He also added another 753 receiving yards and 3 TDs. Keep in mind he only started 25 out of 32 games those seasons. |

LJ was stronger and could run over LBs and DBs once he got into the second level, but Priest Holmes had incredible vision and patience. If there wasn't a hole for LJ where the play was designed to go, he didn't have the ability to find one and cut to it. I'll take Holmes all day, every day.

I don't think you could go wrong..
LJ was bigger, stronger, and faster. Priest had better vision, patience, and was a better receiver. |

I love Jamaal, but he has a long ways to go yet for me to consider him in conversations for GOAT. To me, the best RB this league has ever seen is Barry Sanders, and I don't see any back with his abilities in the league now. Many others will, I'm sure, make cases for a plethora of other backs to be GOAT. Jamaal, while good, just doesn't stack up yet.

He'll likely never even be considered for the HOF, let alone GOAT. He just doesn't get the touches required and he spent too many seasons playing on piss poor offenses that bogged down his TD totals.
He'll probably just go down as another great RB. Like a Priest Holmes or Shaun Alexander or something.. |

I don't get that eerie, "oh crap, Jamaal is gonna get injured!" feeling every time he touches the ball, like I used to in the 2010-2012 era. I'm not sure why. Maybe it was because in the back of my mind I thought there had to be something that was contributing to Thomas Jones being fed the ball 20+ times compared to Jamaal's 10-12 carries...thought he may be injury prone or something. God, remember how crazy that used to drive all of us? Thomas Jones being our work-horse and Jamaal generally getting 10-14 carries per game. UGH. Anyways, although he tore his ACL in 2011 and was injured in the playoff game last year, I don't get that "oh shit" feeling with him anymore...Maybe he has physically filled out a bit or maybe it has something to do with the fact that he doesn't seem even slightly apprehensive in terms of just mauling someone over via blocking. I posted a link to the "Vote for Jamaal Charles for NFL Best Player ESPY" on my facebook and tagged all my Chiefs fan friends with it (which aren't many...Southeast Iowa seems to be Bears-Packersville...with a bunch of ****ing Donk homers). I immediately received Peyton Manning replies after posting. In reality, does Peyton have a chance of NOT winning the ESPY after the stats he put up last year, along with his popularity? God, I'd love it if Jamaal beat Peyton...and I honestly wouldn't feel like there was some sort of injustice if it did happen. |

I think JC has 3 good years left.
If he gets any blocking from this O-Line, and Smith builds on his progress from his last 6 games, Charles could well avg. 6 ypc over those 3 years. That would put well over 1/2 ypc better than the man closest to him. Not sure he'd be in the discussion as GOAT, but it should put him in HoF consideration.

Man, I've never thought Emmitt Smith was GOAT material. In my opinion, he's the "worst best" RB in history.
Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Ladainian Tomlinson, Adrian Peterson, Marshall Faulk, Jim Brown. |
