Jax Teller and the Mayans are at WAR

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/17/us/texas-shooting/

9 dead, 18 wounded, 4 bikers killed by police in a shootout... more hardass methheads supposedly headed to Waco as we speak to back up their brothers.

Its time to kill Clay, he's bad for the club.... man.

In most places, you can't even really see the actual businesses on Dickson due to all the vendor crap set up everywhere. I think that keeps the bikers from even really noticing the local shops and businesses (other than the bars).

Hell, I have friends that own a bar one block off Dickson on Block Street (Maxine's). They basically get no business either because the bikers don't wander off of Dickson and their regular customers don't come down because they don't want to deal with the traffic caused by the festival.

That's another reason, though, I think the 300k number is so ludicrous. If there were actually 300k additional people in town, there would be a lot of spillover into surrounding businesses and such, and the action couldn't all be limited to basically one street.
In Hot Springs, most all of the vendors are either in the convention center or out on the south end of town. Bob Dole doesn't recall any businesses closed that would''t normally be closed on that particular day of the week. The whole thing is strung out so far along the main drag, that it doesn't feel too cramped.

Anytime I've been to Arkansas for BBB I always spend money at local bars and restaurants. I think the only money I've spent at the vendors was on some leather and patches. Maybe a rally tshirt. I can't believe there isn't a spike in tax revenue that weekend.

Well, there are a lot of estimated tax revenues from it based on estimated attendance figures (though the attendance figures are heavily disputed). I agree that it has to have a significant positive impact in tax revenue collection, though. I'll take my wife's business as an example, though. Over the 3 days that she closes during BB&BBQ, she would probably gross 2,500-3000 in sales on a "normal" Farmer's Market weekend. Almost all retail locations in her area close or take a significant hit in sales that weekend, which offsets quite a bit of the positive impact. On top of that, a lot of the money is being spent with out of state vendors. Due to complaints from citizens, they've now started doing a MUCH better job of collecting tax revenues from those vendors, but there are still obviously cash transactions and such which stay off the books and don't get collected.

Anyway, it's a pretty complicated thing that it a huge hot button divisive issue in our city. Like I said, though, for us it's a great weekend to get out to the lake or go camping or just take a break from all the football weekends, which are pretty insane for my wife's store. The lost revenue hurts some, but it's not a huge hit.

Anyway, thanks for coming down and visiting and shopping at the local spots. It's appreciated. I know that our area is a pretty awesome place to ride, so I'm glad that people get to enjoy it!

Did you think about the return traffic that is generated from the rally? Growing up in Missouri, Arkansas was always a punchline, not somewhere I would want to take a vacation. After my first visit to BBB I now try to get down there multiple times a year on the bike. I know it couldn't be fun living there during the rally, but I think its probably really good for the region.

Yeah. That's a very good point in that it's made Northwest Arkansas a destination for a lot of bikers who come outside the rally as well once they see the potential for rides in the area. And they DO spend money locally because there aren't vendors set up.

We're about to have the same thing start happening with mountain biking. The area is about to freaking explode for it. We now have a trail system connecting Fayetteville to Bella Vista with badass mountain biking anchors (with like downhill banked ramps and jumps and such) at each end, and one in the middle. There are bars and restaurants all the way up and down the trails as well, with like 8 regional microbreweries accessible from the trail.

We also have Tom Walton and his group of friends/investors promoting the crap out of mountain biking and cycling in the region. It's a pretty exciting development.

The Banshees are supposedly loosely affiliated with HA. Oddly enough, the Texas chapter here all wear NOLA patches--not TX.

And they act nothing like 1%ers. Hell, they have tossed brothers with meth habits. Generally nice guys, but you don't **** with one or you ****ed with them all. (Bob Dole's band plays a gig at their clubhouse every year.)

We could code name it "Somalia"... Drones with cameras could show the PPV public angles they've never seen but always wanted...
