Harrison of NFL.com ranks his top 10 QB's of '15 and Alex....

You can read the full list and see video here

Here's a small excerpt

Competition was fierce at the 10-spot, coming down to Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco and Matthew Stafford. If we were talking overall careers, Manning would be the choice. Flacco presents an interesting argument, because he tends to light it up in nationally televised games. At the same time, there's no question he's been inconsistent since winning Super Bowl XLVII. Stafford's inaccuracy in key spots has driven Lions fans crazy. Newton's calling card has never included on-the-mark throws, but his overall game can be a nightmare for defenses. Ryan, meanwhile, has been the most consistent, and was ultimately the toughest to leave off.

So why Smith?

Alex is a good fit for the WCO.

We need to see some more 10+ passes, but he's been pretty solid in all other areas considering he had a bottom 5 OL and WR core last year.

I would take the following QBs ranked below Alex over him (in no order):

Eli Manning
Joe Flacco
Matt Ryan
Matt Stafford
Ryan Tannehill
Cam Newton
Colin Kaepernick
Teddy Bridgewater

and possibly
Marcus Mariota
Jameis Winston

If we can get all these Oline pieces to work out.

We are going into training camp with 3 out 5 starting spots along the Oline not being decided yet. Not usually a good sign.

Can it work out? Yes.

You have to think that the odds will be that at least one won't though. Then we will need a backup to step up. What about injury?

Just feels like a train wreck ready to happen. imo.

If we are comparing the 2 QB's ability to make a living by the distance they throw the ball during a season, then Manning is living in a cardboard box and Smith is living in the White House.

Jesus, dude. Step back from the ledge.

Injury is a concern with every team.

We were bit by the injury bug the last 2 season. Mostly on D. Last season's D was pretty good despite that.

Just like every other team, You hope your new additions pan out.

How can you pick a guy who didn't throw a TD to a wide receiver last season over one that won the SB two seasons ago throwing the ball?

Ben had a great year while you can argue that Peyton and Brees had down years.

Plus Ben's got ridiculous weapons. Probably the best offensive supporting cast of any QB in the league outside of Rodgers.

"10 best quarterbacks heading into 2015."

This list is based on the 10 best going forward, not the 10 best to this point. A lot of this has to do with the situation around the QB than it does the QB himself. The situation around Smith HAS certainly improved (1st time being 3rd year in same system, best WR - for his style - that's he's had to throw to in his career, 2nd year for Kelce who won't be splitting snaps with Fasano, 2nd year for DAT who should see an expanded role, healthy Charles, Wilson looks to be a big improvement over Jenkins or Avery, and the line will be at least different than the train wreck it was last year... certainly can't be worse.)

Other than the question mark of the offensive line, this will be the best team situation that Smith has ever been in... by far. Certainly not a guarantee of anything, but certainly reason to be hopeful.

I hope the Chiefs kill it this year.

Because you have to respect the deep ball, and he puts the ball in a place where the WR can go unlike smiff.

Well then, I'll enjoy seeing Alex's name on the stat sheet come somewhere between 1-10 at the end of the season. What's he have to do to accomplish this? Increase his performance from his best year ever by over 20% or so? In the bag.

I would hope that every Chiefs' fan would enjoy that.

Sadly, i don't think they all will though.
