As we've already reported, SCEA has removed firmware 2.40, released early this morning, from its update servers. Users attempting to use the System Update feature from the PS3 XMB from firmware prior to 2.40 are now being told that their software is up to date.

Mine was working great last night. Thats weird. If I already DL'd 2.4 will I still have it when I go home tonight?

If it started up for you once, then you are probably OK.

I only laugh because of all the crap M$ took over their updates. My first update on PS3 and this happens.

Good thing I chose to wait and not jump all over it like tons of others did.

No, sony really ****ed up. They are going to have to replace A Billion Dollars worth of Hardware.

On top of the money lost on the PS3 So Far.

They will be the laughing stock of E3.

EDIT: Well I guess not that many people had a chance to DL so it wont be a billion, maybe $100K

They are already having people with out of warranty systems fork over the $150 to get it fixed. Thats laughable. The fact that their Terms of Service excludes care if firmware screws up your system is just plain wrong.

There is a workaround if you want to take out your HDD and format it on your computer. That shouldn't be necessary either though.

I miss the old days when firmware was not even needed.

Yeah, they just took 2 steps backwards for sure.

It almost makes you wonder about the $150 fee for fixing it.

I wonder how many of the people complaining on the PS3 forum were just trolls. This is the kinda thing that would make a pretty good gag.

I doubt that is the case. No reason for Sony to pull the update if that were the case.

Better safe than sorry though. Quite a few were posting youtube videos showing what the update did.

I was following that thread (and the others like it) yesterday. It's never smart to be the guy who logs in at 12:01 to be the first to DL an update, IMO. Glad I waited.

You mean the days when you took out the cartridge, blew on it, blew in the machine, plopped it back in and booted up? Those days? Yeah, those days were nice.

Games were a crapload more expensive back then, too, now that you think about it. I remember SNES games were around 40-60 bucks, sometimes 70. That was back in early to mid 90's.
