Who Got Beat Up the Most?

Been watching an ESPN special about Archie Manning's life. Have a lot of respect for him. He played 14 seasons and never had a winning season.

Got me thinking, which NFL QBs do you think took the worst beatings during their career? Guys I would nominate, Archie would be number one:

Also:

Vinny Testaverde
Steve DeBerg
David Carr
Neil Lomax

Any nominees?

Byron Leftwich. Never have I seen a quarterback get lit up play after play after play. Seems like every time he released the ball he had a helmet buried in his chest about 0.5 seconds later

It's an interesting question, because the QB would have to be good enough to stay in the league a long time, but play on teams with terrible offensive lines that gave up a lot of sacks. Those two things are usually opposites, bad lines get QB's killed, and knocked out of the league eventually.

I think Chad Pennington might be another nominee.

Roethlisberger takes a lot of hits, and that's not even counting courtroom proceedings. However, it's hard to pick any modern-era QB.

David Carr's career is buried somewhere near the 50 yard line in Reliant Stadium, so I'll go with him. Leftwich is a good mention too, though.

Jim Kelly. Empty handed after 4 straight trips to the super bowl. It just doesn't get any worse than that.

IMO, Manning got beat up worse than anyone. He played for some really bad Saints teams than got traded to a worse Houston Oilers team. Sad...

A QB didn't have to play for bad teams with poor O-Lines to take a lot of hits.

Johhny Unitas and Kurt Warner stood in the pocket waiting for big plays to open up, and they consistently took a pummeling.

I tried to come up with someone else just to be contrary, maybe Randall Cunningham. He has the reputation of being Superman but he was sacked a LOT. I remember his first year, when Jaworski got in a 3rd and forever situation, Buddy Ryan would throw Randall out there to the wolves, just to see if he could do something.

But, it has to be Archie. Every time I ever saw him he was just running for his life.
