Actually, I got to know the person who was Ewing Kauffman's bodyguard and driver for over 20 years. He became very tight with everyone in the Royals organization and spent a ton of time in their locker room. He had a lot of cool things, and wanted to pass it along to someone.

I used to be quite the connoisseur of table-top baseball games, having played several from about 1979-92 (Statis-Pro, Baseball Strategy, APBA, Strat-o-matic, Pursue the Pennant, Sherco Baseball Simulation, etc.). But I never heard of the Brett Ball game. Had to google it.

I've got that turf thing in my office. They sold a lot of those, not really that rare. I have a ball autographed by George and Buck O'Neil. I have ticket stub from game 7 of 85 world series, and KC Star from the day they made the series and the day they won the series. I have a couple of limited prints of George with his 3 silver bats for batting champion in 3 different decades.
Not related to George, but I have two other cool baseballs too. One is autographed by Dan Quizenberry and Rich Gossage. Got it after catching a home run by Steve Balboni. And I have a ball from the 25 year opening day at Kauffman Stadium signed by Charlie Plumb. Who was Charlie Plumb? Charlie was a Navy Pilot from KC who got shot down over Vietnam and was a POW for seven years. He threw out the first pitch when Royals stadium opened in 1973, having just been released by the North Vietnamese. http://www.charlieplumb.com/militarybio.htm |
