Former Kansas Jayhawks head coach Mark Mangino could return to the sidelines at Colorado, based on a report from Tom Deinhart of the Big Ten Network. According to Deinhart, Mangino and Colorado have met already and a second meeting between the two parties is in the works.


In seven years with the Jayhawks, Mangino was able to take a program that went 2-10 in his first season and lead them to heights rarely seen in Lawrence. Mangino led Kansas to a 50-48 record while at Kansas and led the Jayhawks to four bowls, winning three of them.
Mangino's best season with Kansas was in 2007, when the Jayhawks went 12-1 and finished the season with a victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Orange Bowl.
Mangino was let go in 2009 after an internal investigation that showed that he verbally abused his players repeatedly. After a barrage of negative articles from the national media, Mangino and the Kansas administration agreed to a buyout and Mangino resigned in December of that year.

He's available, kind of (wrongly) damged goods. However, since CU has a cap on what they can pay a public employee, Mangino could be had for a relatively cheap price most likely.

Embree's contract sucked (relatively speaking).

$250,000 base salary
— $200,000 annual supplemental compensation for radio, television and public appearances
— $200,000 for sponsorship support
— $75,000 for conducting summer football camps
— $6,000 for country club membership
— $10,000 in Nike sports apparel
— Up to $20,000 in moving expenses plus 30 days of lodging
— A courtesy car or up to $800 a month in lieu of a courtesy car
— Ten season tickets for a suite in Folsom Field for home football games
— Ten season tickets to home games for both men's and women's basketball

Embree also is eligible for bonuses, including up to $75,000 for academic progress towards graduation of football players; up to $75,000 for the welfare and development of football players; and up to $50,000 for development of the football program's reputation on campus.

Furthermore, Embree is eligible for several bonuses based on the team's record: a $750,000 bonus if the Buffs bring home a national championship; $50,000 if the football team wins seven games in the regular season; and $200,000 if the the team plays in a non-Bowl Championship Series bowl game.

If CU fires Embree in 2011, he will be paid $750,000; $500,000 if terminated in 2012; and $250,000 if terminated in 2013. CU will give no money if he's fired in 2014 or 2015.

That's under 1M$ on the base deal.
