CHIEFS AGREE TO TERMS WITH THREE NFL EUROPE FREE AGENTS
Jun 08, 2006, 2:02:35 PM

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Thursday that the club has agreed to terms of two-year contracts with free agent G Tyler Lenda and WR Scott McCready. The club also agreed to a one-year contract with FB J.R. Niklos. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available.

Lenda (6-3, 293) comes to Kansas City as a free agent after spending the previous three years with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe. He appeared in 30 games (20 starts) for the Admirals. Lenda originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Denver in 2003. He previously attended training camp with Washington (2005) and Denver (2003-04).

The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native was a two-year starter at Penn State. As a senior, Lenda started 11 games and recorded 53 knockdowns. He was a three-starter at Cliff High School in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania where he also earned a school-record 13 varsity letters.

McCready (6-0, 200) originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with New England in 2001. He has spent the past five seasons (2002-06) in NFL Europe playing for the Scottish Claymores (2002-03) and the Hamburg Sea Devils (2004-06). McCready caught 182 passes for 2,079 yards (11.4 avg.) with nine touchdowns during his time in Europe, ranking second in NFLEL history in both receptions and receiving yards. McCready spent portions of the 2001 and 2002 seasons as a member of New England’s practice squad and won a Super Bowl ring.

The London, England native appeared in every game during his two seasons at South Florida. He tallied 37 receptions for 517 yards (14.0 avg.) with six scores as a senior. McCready began his collegiate career at Louisiana Tech, spending two seasons with the Bulldogs. He attended King High School in Tampa, Florida as a junior and senior, earning all-district and all-conference honors.

Niklos (6-2, 229) joins the Chiefs after spending the last two seasons with the Frankfurt Galaxy (2005-06). He had 93 carries for 340 yards (3.7 avg.) with four TDs during his stint in Europe. Niklos originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Seattle in 2002. He spent time on the Seahawks practice squad before being signed to the Rams active roster. Niklos previously attended training camp with Oakland (2004-05) and St. Louis (2005).

The Worthington, Ohio native hauled in 80 receptions for 1,235 yards (15.4 avg.) with eight TDs during his collegiate career at Western Illinois and was named first team All-Gateway Conference as a tight end his junior and senior campaigns. Niklos attended Thomas-Worthington High School in Worthington, Ohio where he earned three letters in both football and track.

We're saved now.

A 5-year veteran NFLE receiver is just what we needed.

How sure we can be, you never know...

Culpepper was UCF and not USF, right? Cause I was thinking this guy would have been around the same time he was, but I think its a different school.

I'd rather see McCready stick on the 53-man roster than some project. We've got enough of those who will be forced to act as #3 and #4 receivers -- McCready's a stable guy who will make tough catches and should be able to contribute.

We lost Chris Horn, so we needed a replacement Chris Horn.

Kawika went to South Florida.

Sorry if I can't get excited about a WR who has spent 5 years in NFLE.

Doesn't the NFL allow additional practice squad spots for NFLE players?

Additional training camp roster spots. I think it has to do with the number you allotted to the league rather than how many you sign later, however.

Unless there's been a rule change about the PS that I missed. Which wouldn't surprise me.
