Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Why do you even bother to post?
Did you even read that post?

Because your response indicates that you either didn't, or you are having a hard time with comprehension.

Let me ask you a question...do you think Alex Smith (who has a career high of less than 3500 yards and 18tds) will be the second best fantasy quarterback of 2013?

Homer up, Dane. Just like last year.

Yeah, it is. Good left tackles are usually good right away.

They aren't like defensive linemen or corners.

Albert had a really good game facing Seymour in his first start.

I don't know about 2nd best for a season, but Alex Smith has been a pretty good fantasy QB for stretches in the past.

Albert says himself that he wasn't very good in his first two seasons. Your confident assertions are losing credibility with me.

Which LTs were bad when they got into the NFL but developed into good ones over time...that were high picks?

FFS Pat, we are replacing a really good LT with a first overall pick...don't you have ANY epectations at all or are you just fine no matter what?

I just mentioned Branden Albert, who says himself that he wasn't very good his first couple of years, but yet he's developed into a pretty good one. There are even people around here who call him top 5-10 in the league.

I expect a 1.1 draftee to be an impact player from the very beginning. If he's not, you should probably draft someone else. You must have me confused with someone else. I'm not a part of the group who wants to draft someone and then let him sit for a couple of years while he gets up to speed.

One second rounder for Albert sounds cheap. We better get more than that.

Bruce Mathews was horrible as a rookie for the Oilers. He was absolutely ABUSED repeatidly, especially by Ed "Too Tall" Jones and others that season. Yet he went on to be one of the best of all time earning All Pro honors at several OL positions and played for 17 or so seasons at a very high level. He might very welll be the best overall O-linemen of all time. I know he's the exception, but you asked...

Albert was a guard in college and only allowed 4 sacks his whole rookie year.

It's about the RISE in production that the rookie gives you. It's not about just simply getting him on the field.

Drafting Joeckel/Fisher and having them play AT Branden Albert's current ability would be huge. And if that happens, we're breaking even. The only benefits we get out of it are we're getting younger and cheaper at the LT position.

The only way to actually make this deal sing would be for our 2nd round pick from the Dolphins to be the badassiest badass in the history of the Chiefs drafting in the 2nd round. We're talking immediate starter and instant sensation.

For the record, since misinformation flows in this thread, Fabiano ranked the schedule for th QBs. 1 being the easiest and 32nd being the hardest.

Good lord. It's dumb to say that offensive line is one of the more plug and play positions in pro football. It's not. I'm not going to go round and round with you while you make excuses for each player I name.
