HELP : PC froze up on desktop..........

OK, I was running TrendMicro House call tonight while I was out. Sometime during the scan, Norton found a bug of some sort and deleted the file. I didn't write the name down......... I ran some other software ( adaware, spybot,etc. ) and rebooted the machine.

I get a window : Explorer.EXE - Unable to locate Coponent
This application failed to start because SHDOCVW.dll was not found. Reinstalling application may fix this problem.

This window is placed on my deskstop.... if I click off of it, I still have a desktop with no icons, the dame thing is not loading up ?

WTF is this file ? How do I get it back to square 1 again ?

Here is the file you are missing.

Unzip to extract the file to º
º your windows\system directory.

If you can access safemode this might work.

When I tried to log in on safe mode, I got the same message and a blank black screen behind it, no icons.........

put in the win2k or xp disk and run setup again.
at the second screen choose to repair the installation.

I copied the file to disk from this pc, plugged it in, I can't get no response to promp from the mouse. The mouse arrow moves around, I have no start menu, no Icons, just the background wallpaper I have of the grandkids on it.

Can you boot to command prompt and copy from there?

OK, I have Windows XP Home Edition on the pc, I have another Windows XP Home Edition disc, it's not the same disc that is downloaded to this pc.

Will that work ? I question it because of the product dodes being different.

Further more, i copied the zip file to disc, but I can't open it up on the CD rom anyways. Will the windows open it up automatically ?

My damn pc guy( that built the damn thing ) is still in bed catching his beauty sleep.......
