Restaurants of yesteryear

What Restaurants did you grow up around? I'm not talking super fancy and yes fast-food counts. What distinctive memories do you associate with them?

Mine?

Taco Via-(the lit up menu of the various taco plates displayed on the wall), WhiteCastle-On a paper plate with fries and Pepsi, Arthur Treachers(off Noland), Tippins(off Noland), Perkins(the free toy well), Country Deli(awesome local deli to Blue Springs heated sandwiches on Sourdough buns), Zarda BBQ and Dairy, FunHouse Pizza(of Course)(Dark. Video- Games,Electonic Riding Bull and 25-cent Taco night) Annes Sante Fe.

Keep in mind I never see these anymore living in Georgia.

I think it did have a taco bar or something. The food wasn't very good, but it was the only fast food joint in "Turner". As young Turner hooligans we used to go the arcade/pool hall on our bikes and TT was right next door. The pool hall was the Red Balloon. Very dicey place for 13 yr. olds...

This isn't exactly a restaurant of yesteryear, but I went out to eat with my girlfriend's family down in KCMO yesterday, and they were all raving about "Stroud's".

I was a bit skeptical, because any time someone says they have the best "anything", I disbelieve them. But they were right...hands down the best fried chicken I've ever ate in my life. The cinammon rolls were amazing as well.

I heard a rumor several weeks back that Stroud's was looking for a site to replace the restaurant they closed out south. Anyone else hear that?

I was in Wichita this weekend and saw an ad for Stroud's. Is it owned by the same people?

Not sure about ownership, but it's an extension of Stroud's in KC.

I couldn't agree more.

Took my wife there about a year ago and was severely disappointed.

Food wasn't even close to being passable.
