I second Strongside's recommendation for Succotash, which has great food in a cozy atmosphere. It's a breakfast/lunch place, near Hospital Hill & Crown Center. They are open Monday, closing at 3 pm. It's one of those places in an older building that looks like it was decorated by thrifty, fun hipsters. Wonderful place if you like great food in a cozy, quirky setting. The menu has very wide appeal for such a small place, and everything is made well. I think anyone would like it, from picky vegans to hearty carnivores.

I was there one evening at the end of January '17, I had just driven in from FT Wayne for a family emergency There was all kinds of family BS going on.and I was busy taking notes and didn't pay attn to where Greg took me. I've known him for nearly 40 years and he never has forced me eat dog food before... so what the hell. I remember seeing the Hot Rocks store and questioned where we were. He just told me Kansas Ave. I nodded and went back to the phone. I have never been in the area at night.
I had the Al Pastor torta with avocado. It was ****ing great and came with tons of killer fries for $6!!! (Cheap) Greg had the chili rellano, as he always does when he tries a new place, and said it was great. It sure looked good. I tried the Tomatillo salsa, it rocked!. I thought about ordering the tamales (I love good tamales) but I was too tired to be disappointed with shitty tamales. Any good? I like Carniceria Guanajuato(Indy) better, as Daisey's isn't in the same league.(sorry) They are very much equals when you put equal menu items against each other CG's offers beer, table or counter service, and a much more diverse menu. Don't get me wrong, I would go back to Daisy's in a heartbeat if I was within shouting distance but I will suffer with CG til then. https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x886b560448714d31%3A0x1dd2aaf59166455b!2m22!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i20!16m16!1b1!2m2!1m1!1e1!2m2! 1m1!1e3!2m2!1m1!1e5!2m2!1m1!1e4!2m2!1m1!1e6!3m1!7e115!4s%2Fmaps%2Fplace%2Fcarniceria%2Bguanajuato%2B carry%2Bout%2Bmenu%2F%4039.8329894%2C-86.2486346%2C3a%2C75y%2C149h%2C90t%2Fdata%3D*213m4*211e1*213m2*211sw_kmAqHfYojgt2ECIS0w0g*212e0*214m 2*213m1*211s0x886b560448714d31%3A0x1dd2aaf59166455b!5scarniceria%20guanajuato%20carry%20out%20menu%2 0-%20Google%20Search&imagekey=!1e10!2sAF1QipNKbd1jeFWahwHxug0X-UJSwYbZjHsEXioJTove&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjsrur5yJbXAhXF6YMKHaZCAiIQoB8IiwEwCg https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en...AiIQoB8IiwEwCg https://scontent-dft4-3.xx.fbcdn.net...a5&oe=5A632EAB https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en...AiIQoB8IiwEwCg

Lots of talk about Stroud's. I have only been once and when I went is was fine...just fine...nowhere near all the fanfare it gets but that was only one sitting and I should give it another whirl.
For me the best fried chicken in the area is at Rye and it is not close. http://www.kansascity.com/entertainm...cle324185.html |

The Rieger does some of the best work in town. Chef Hannah is just the best dude and such a cool advocate for the KC scene.
Check out the menu....its not crazy or weird but not for everyone either. http://theriegerkc.com |

I should have added In-a-tub to my list. Any place that puts Mac n cheese powder on their tacos is a winner in my book.

Personally I can't handle Chili's nor Applebee's but can see where people could compare them with 54 and that neighborhood grill and bar concept. One thing I know for sure those other places can't even come close to making Gringo Dip.

I remember that stuff. I used to get a side to go on fries when I ate lunch up there...I remember those lunches; burger, fries, and 4 shots of tequila, I don't know how those guys went back to ford and worked. At least they were "skilled" workers and didn't build trucks.

It's a little crazy that I've been eating at 54th Street for over 20 years now, and I've hit most of them.... the original two (before they moved it to Zona), Zona, Liberty, by the triangle, St Joe, St Louis (which apparently now has 5 of them)....

Strouds off of Holmes was amazing, had some of the best flavored fried chicken I've ever come across. But when that location closed down, all the flavor went with it. Hard to call yourself a great fried chicken place when the best thing you have going for you is your potatoes and green beans (they are amazing though). Still need to try Red Door Grill though.

Wasn't the 1st on N Oak and Englewood 56th st 12 in TX 8 StL including Wentzville 8 KC and a couple of strays. I used to go to the Englewood location when it first opened I think the Chevy dealership was Courtesy before becoming Van again. I had my own bottle of 1842 Jameson's in Liberty
