L.T. proclaims he's "the best back"
Posted by Tom Curran on September 2, 2009 9:13 AM ET (PFT)

The fact that he has turned 30 doesn't mean LaDainian Tomlinson's too old to engage in a little "neener, neener, neener."

Speaking to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, Tomlinson flashed jealousy about a recent Sporting News article in which Jim Brown interviewed Adrian Peterson.

One question posed by Brown suggests that Tomlinson is overrated.

The article, in which Brown says he believes Peterson is "the most complete back he's seen in a long time," was given to Tomlinson by a Chargers staffer.

"I was sitting there reading it thinking, 'Wow,' " Tomlinson told Farmer. "The difference with me is you can put me out on that field and there will be nothing I can't do. I won't have to come off the field. Adrian has to come off sometimes on third down. Running routes, he's still not there yet. Great downhill runner, powerful, fast, all that stuff. . . .

"But anything on that field you want me to do -- throw it, block -- I can do it. That's what I pride myself on is not having any weaknesses. And that's what makes me the best back."

It's a predictable response from Tomlinson. In 2006, he was being touted as the heir apparent to Brown. Two injury-marred seasons later, and Brown's prodding Peterson to call L.T. overrated while they sip lemonade on the veranda.

Given the pride Tomlinson takes in his craft, making sure L.T. read all about it was, in the short-term, a wise motivational move by the Chargers.

But if it causes him to push too hard from September through December, leaving him used up and/or injured come the playoffs, the smarter move might have been to put the thing in a box marked "Do not open until Christmas."

Did LJ have a rush for -24 yards today?

Because at one point it said he had 77 yards, then it said he finished with 53.

He had 84 yards and then we commenced the "LJ gets stuffed in the backfield" gameplan.

It made me cry.

Also, we didn't even bother to give him a chance to leap in for a TD.

IT MADE ME CRY.

I'll be surprised if LT makes it out of the game healthy.

I'll also be surprised if he has more than 30 yards rushing.

San Diego's line is terrible at run blocking. Perhaps even worse than KC's.

Week 4

LT - 70 yards, 1 TD (120 points)
LJ - 189 yards (189 points)

LT had an awful, shitty game against the Steelers today. A complete yawner. LJ had his best game of the season and would have widened the gap even further if Todd Haley's ****ing 4th quarter draws hadn't robbed him of 31 yards.

We're a quarter through the season and LJ has a bigger lead than I would have ever anticipated at this point, especially since he hasn't even scored a touchdown. Next week LJ has a chance to gash a below average Cowboys' run defense, and KC's ground game is getting better every week. LT has a bye.

The clock is ticking, Buck.......LT needs to make a move before the Chiefs find their chemistry with the running game...because then it's OVER.

Pretty good for me considering LT missed 2 games.

He'll get healthy over the bye week and you'll be ****ed.

Pretty good? PRETTY GOOD?

At this point LT will be lucky to get 15 touches in any game this year.

HE'S DONE.

The Chargers are a pass-first offense and will be playing from behind all year because of their terrible defense.

LT IS FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ a chief fan talking about playing behind the whole year!!!! WOW!!!!

Buck...this guy can talk a huge game now but LT still looks to be very agile and has a good burst. Now, the oline is the question mark...get that fixed and this really wont be a competition.

Only one is washed up. In fact, he's on pace for ALMOST 800 yards DESPITE his shitty line.

HOF talent, people. HOF talent.

ALSO, LJ may be credited with another 19 yards when the NFL reviews it's stats this week. Right now Brian Waters appears to be getting credit for LJ's 19-yard run according to play-by-play on NFL.com.

The GAP COULD WIDEN!
