So what's going to be our OL?

About the only thing anybody knows is that Fisher, LDT, and Schwartz are starting. The rest is a complete mess.

Wylie, McKenzie, Allegretti, and Hunter all have a good shot at that LG spot.

McKenzie is intriguing because he also was spotted playing a few C snaps during OTAs. I've been saying that from looking at him, because he can move well and he has tree trunks for legs that he might make a better C than G, but who really knows how much progress he's made in converting to OL.

Assuming, however, that Reiter (or darkhorses Allegretti or Murray) take the C spot, you now wrestle with the idea of trying to throw McKenzie off the deep end at starting LG, or do you go with Wylie even though his comfort is on the right side? I would mention Cameron Erving as a possibility, but the Chiefs out of nowhere brought in Jeff Allen last year to replace him (probably because even though he surpassed expectations, he still kinda sucked). It's apparent the Chiefs want McKenzie to try to take that LG spot, but if he's not ready or just won't amount to much as an NFL lineman, you clearly can't put him out there.

And who you chose at starter for LG and C obviously affects the depth, because you can't double up on certain guys with certain position flexibilities. If you go with Wylie at LG, that all of a sudden makes Hunter more valuable to make the squad because of his ability to possibly play tackle...

So pick some dudes, print your lottery ticket, and come crow in this thread at the end of August if you guessed the right combinations

They had Wylie at LG during the OTA stuff with Reiter at C.

IIRC, Wylie was a LG before having to play RG once LDT got hurt. So I'm guessing he goes back to LG.

I'd to Fisher, Wylie, Reiter, LDT and Schwartz

Unless McKenzie can beat out one of those 2 in the LG or C spot, he may be time's up.

The Chiefs develop centers for the rest of the NFL (#1 and #10 highest paid are former Chiefs). Hope we can work that magic again. Protecting Pat seems pretty important, IMO.

I like Erving being the backup swing tackle/versatile OL. Plus that brings down his salary unless he’s truly needed bc of his contract structure.

Fisher, Wylie, Reiter, LDT and Schwartz starting. Erving, McKenzie and Allegretti as depth

I'd like to see McKenzie take that C job; I just don't see anything I'm fond of with Reiter.

Fisher - Wylie - McKenzie - LDT - Schwartz

If Erving is the starter, something has gone terribly awry. Wylie was significantly better than him last year and McKenzie should have shown enough growth to at least get a crack at the job.

Erving and Reiter aren't good. If that's 40% of the crew tasked with protecting the most valuable asset in football, we dun goofed...

I'll go ahead and be the bold idiot dumbass who makes projections based on selective college highlights.

I say Jimmy Murray takes the starting C job. And McKenzie at LG. LDT looked kind of shaky in the preseason of his 2nd year, but Reid nevertheless threw him out there and trusted that he'd get his shit together. I think the same thing will occur with McKenzie.

Reiter is still the backup C. Allegretti shows enough to backup at G. Wylie is there to also play G and shows he's the best swing tackle the Chiefs have available.

Cam Erving dies in a fire.

Fisher, McKenzie, Murray, LDT, Schwartz
(Reiter, Allegretti, Wylie on the bench)

I just looked at the official team roster and Wylie is listed as a tackle. Did I miss something?

I dont know what anyone has seen from McKenzie that a real unknown. Short of working with Will Shields and releasing a twitter clip that he looked disinterested in what Will had to say and his footwork looked like was done in swamp mud. I think he could be in jeopardy but hell who knows very little info on the guy. I expect we may seek depth in camp cutdowns.

All. Of. This. Reiter kind of stinks. Letting go of the QB of the OL had better be a part of a master plan.

Also according to the website, Jimmy Murray is our only C.

They should just list everybody as OL if they're not going to ever update the position switches or even get them right at all in the first place (Reiter has never played anything but C for the Chiefs)
