Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

No. These are the top two players. On a positive note, I'm more happy with Fisher.

we used to the #1 pick in the draft to replace a quality LT

because, if I'm to believe you, no one else in the draft is good enough for the 2-14 Chiefs...

whew...our 30 year streak of avoiding 'risk' is unbroken, and that's what matters

'risk' = bad

safe = good

KK is trying to hypothesize some sort of possibility of trading back. Not happening.

This is probably the least arguable statement ever made on this board.

Seriously - anyone wanna take a shot at that? Anyone want to argue that at 0:00 on the last game of the year, they'd have been okie dokie with that abortion of a season yielding us Eric Fisher and Alex Smith?

Almost everyone would've assumed that Pioli was still in charge because frankly, this has all been a very Piolish off-season.

This sucks. It doesn't suck as badly as Tyson Jackson sucked (because Eric Fisher will be a good player and could be an incredible one), but it still sucks.

In the end, it's not awful, but it's really really ****ing underwhelming.

this is true

once it turned out that his favorite QB - the one he wanted to use the #1 pick in the draft on - was a 5th round pick, he became a true fan....

Of course there are other players that are good enough. So you mean to tell me you'd be ok taking Millner, another DT/DE? Who else are they taking?

Just goes to prove that hoping for your team to tank a season to get a high pick isn't always the best option. I hear that the Colts pick at 24 is getting a ton of action right now. What a great year it would be to be picking there. Doesn't always work out, especially for the Chiefs.

We just need these guys to draft productive football players, whoever they are. Because we can't have anymore Dorsey's, Jackson's, and Baldwin's anymore if we are going to go anywhere...
