***Official 2014 Training Camp/Preseason Mega-thread***

Post all of the Training Camp/Pre-season updates, relevant tweets, and general thoughts in this mega-thread.

If something happens to be particularly newsworthy, feel free to start a thread and discuss it there. Don't be a dickbag and "Q" up their thread, unless some idiot posts something like 5 days late.

WHEN POSTING TWEETS - When posting Tweets, instead of just copying the text, you can actually embed the tweet by clicking "...More" (right next to the timestamp of the tweet)-> "Embed Tweet" -> Copy the embed code, then paste that into your CP post. It will make the thread look a lot cleaner and we won't have to keep clicking away from the website to see the content. Thanks in advance.

Great pick. Thank god we didn't take a WR or S in this draft instead of Chase Daniel's little brother.

Most of the reports I have seen have not supported this. And it seems as if he can not get separation. The last couple of days, at least, he is running pretty much 3rd team too, even with Hemingway, Williams, and Jenkins being out.

I wouldn't be too disappointed if that happened.

Personally, I wouldn't be too disappointed if Donnie Avery got cut instead of Wilson, Dressler or Harrison.

****ing stone hands.
Let me get this straight...

Weston Dressler:

-Isn't going to return kicks
-Is 29 years old
-Is nearly impossible to find if a defender who is 5'10 or higher has halfway decent coverage
-Struggles to get open against the backup CBs on this team who aren't garbage rookie free agents

And you wouldn't be disappointed if he was kept on the roster over Donnie ****ing Avery just because Avery dropped some balls last year?

Again, do you remember Chad Hall? The only thing we could do to get him open was to run designed plays especially for him. Because he couldn't beat coverage from Tennessee's ****ing dimeback.

This is what I mean when I say some posters on this forum are on their periods when it comes to dropped passes. They don't think straight and they say irrational stuff. Like they would erase all the great plays Donnie Avery made last year just because of the handful he didn't make due to lack of concentration. They would trade the plays he DID make for the ones that he DIDN'T. Nevermind that he made far more plays than he missed, but they also errantly assume that the shitbag who would be replacing him would even be able to get ****ing open enough to catch the shit that Avery dropped.

Chad. ****ing. Hall.

Dressler will be cut. Gone. Axed.

He will die.

Sac's takes have always been esoteric.

Which doesn't detract from the quality of his arguments or the strength of his convictions.

In short, ChiefsPlanet was seemingly constructed for a man of his talents.

You think Dressler is going to be able to block for Charles down field?

Sac, here's how the WR position works in football. This is the process you follow.

1. Run
2. Get open
3. Get the QB to throw you the ball
4. Catch the ball.

Notice that step 2 depends on how well you do step 1. And step 3 depends on how well you do steps 1 and 2.

It follows that step 4 depends on how well you do steps 1-3. If you can't do steps 1-3, then you can't do step 4. So even if a player is better at step 4 than someone else, their value as an offensive weapon is still going to be less than the player who can do steps 1-3.

So Weston Dressler can do step 1. Okay. Good. But then he's awful at step 2 and 3. Guess what? He can't do step 4, even if he's the best in the business at it.

Likewise, Donnie Avery can do steps 1-3. Many WRs are better at performing that process than he is, but he can still do them.

Now he gets to step 4. He had a ~12% drop rate last year. So 88% of the time he's going to catch what's being thrown to him provided the set up works.

Guess what? 88% is greater than 0%. Because Dressler can't get to step 4. He has a 0% chance at catching the ball because it's never going to be thrown at him if he's on the field.

It follows then that Donnie Avery is a much better WR to have on the field than Weston ****ing Dressler.

Yes. I've been making this argument for years and it continually falls on deaf ears.

The Chiefs WRs haven't sucked forever because they have high drop rates. They suck because either the QB can't or won't throw them the ball, and if the QB can't throw them the ball, a large contributing factor to that is the WRs suck at establishing good timing on their routes and being more athletic than the coverage they're facing, especially when it's press man.

The drops are the LAST thing you bitch about. Just as the catch is the LAST part of the process in running a successful play.
