According to a Chiefs source. This is only if the Chiefs don't get Green. The article is on foxsports.com- by Clark Judge. It also says the Rams will up there price now, and that Rams would have accepted a 1st and 4th or a 1st and 5th, but no 2nd rounder returned to Chiefs.

CG

Chiefs source, "We're still talking about it."
Columnist, "Maybe somebody should start talking to the Rams"

The Rams said they wanted a first and third. NOW THEY SAY they would have taken a first and fifth. This is grade school. Screw em. Why are the Chiefs supposed to read their minds.

There at least three to six very good qbs in 2002. Chiefs need to plan ahead. Jason Thomas is another Elway, Henson another Aikman, a tremendous sleeper in Leftwich of Marshall, Simms of Tex, Kittner of Ill, Dorsey of Miami, Boiler of Cal, and Joey Harrington of Oregon and some others. All of which are superior to Green and 7-9 years younger. We can hardly miss next year of getting a great qb. Go with some aged vet this year, draft a mid rd, and wait for next year. You'll have a qb and a backup.

I hate to say it, but at this point I think we should go with Dilfer. He'll come cheap, seems to be the best of what's left (or at least up there), and while he certainly isn't a great talent, he would bring a winning attitude AND HAVE A LOT TO PROVE. I think his motivation to overcome his rep could make up for a lot.

Of course, this would be a short term thing ONLY. I completely agree about drafting our QBOTF next year.

By recommending Dilfer I'm contradicting earlier statements I've made - of course, when I made them, I didn't realize that Carl would go back into flaming reerun mode and watch all the best QBs go elsewhere while continuing to deepstroke the Trent Green pipe dream or bring in Troy "Jurrasic Park" Aikman.

I would not have thought it possible, but I am starting to warm to the idea of getting Dilfer for a year.

I put him in the same class as Elvis - some one that has some good tools and ability, but is not top-notch in the decision making area. So getting him is not a big drop off in talent from last year.

He is relatively healthy when compared to Troy or Bueurline. I think Troys health makes him too much of a gamble.

I don't know what a SB QB would cost, but he doesn't seem to be getting much interest, so maybe he is relatively cheap.

Meanwhile, we save our picks for defense and RB and a young QB.

Lord knows, he is not the sexiest model, but sometimes it is better to go with a Caprice than a Vette.

I don't know that I'd liken Dilfer to a Caprice, Z - I think he's more of a Cavalier. Of course, that's better than Aikman, who at this point is a Chevette with rebuilt motor.

You are probably right about the Cavalier.
For Ache-man, I think a rebuilt Corvair.

I could live with the idea of Dilfer as a stopgap for a seaon or two.
Zeb,
When discussing Dilfer, Billick always pointed out that he didn't make mistakes, which means his decision making wasn't as bad as Elvis' sometimes was.
Dilfer's major problem was that he couldn't hit the wide open receiver on deep throws consistently, something that Elvis was pretty good at.
With the offense that DV and Saunders are bringing to KC though, Dilfer could be productive for the time being.

Milkman - I am more intrigued by this idea as the days go by. According to many, there are going to be an ample supply of good QBs in the draft next year. If this is so, I would be more inclined to go with Dilfer, Collins, and the clipboard guy we sent to Euro. With or without Green, I can't see us better than fourth in the AFC West, with fifth a real scenario. We hang onto #12 this year, draft D, and simply overhaul the O next offseason.

I am all for the signing of a stopgap at QB, whether it's Dilfer, Buerlein, or even one of the better NFLE or XFL QBs (but just say no to Aikman) and fixing our defense.
My ideal scenario would involve a couple of tradedowns in the first round (I've read somewhere that a couple of teams are interested in moving up) that would put us late in the first, but possibly net us a couple 2nd rounders and maybe another 3rd rounder.
If we could get a Torrence Marshall, Tommy Polley or Quinton Caver, Shaun Rogers or Mario Fatefehi, Smoot, players of that ilk, we could go a long way to fixing what ails our D.
I would also be in favor of picking up a RB along the way.
James Jackson seems to be falling in the draft. He could be intriging in the 3rd round.

If we even consider Dilfer as a human being let alone a QB I turn in my red outfits! Dilfer is a complete waste of DNA. Dilfer is the only breathing lifeform that would make me long for Steve Bono. Before this would happen I hope we would activate Len Dawson or Mike Livingston or Steve Deberg, any of whom could make Dilfer look silly. I'd like to say Dilfer sucks but I'm holding back and don't want to say how I really feel. ;)

Dave,
I understand your reservations about Dilfer the QB, but as a human being he has shown nothing but class. He could really be complaining about his situation. I think even he realizes his shortcomings as a QB, but at the same time, the Ravens weren't going to the SB with Banks. He came in and did the job that was asked of him.
He didn't complain about his TB situation, nor is he complaining now.
I don't really want him as my QB, but that kind of person would always be welcome on my team.
