Which defensive players are performing adequately?

Poll to follow.

Relative to their assigned role, which defensive players are performing at or above a level that is to be reasonably expected?

(In other words, don't penalize a guy for being a backup. Consider just his performance on the field when he's playing.)

Note: I'm not including the following players who are not getting regular defensive snaps or are new to the team.

Ben Niemann
Charvarius Ward
Dorian O'Daniel
Eric Berry
Josh Shaw
Justin Hamilton
Leon McQuay
Nate Orchard
Tremon Smith
Frank Zombo

the fact that Scandrick is probably one of the top 3 most consistent players on the defense is really telling how bad this talent is.

And Hitchens crosses the line just ahead of Ragland...

I figured it would have to be a 3 horse race to see who finally got a vote last. Shockingly, Parker got one far sooner than I'd have expected. One interception in game 1 seems to have garnered him far more rope than I'd expected.

Honestly, as bad as Hitchens and Ragland have been, Parker might be as bad or even worse.

I hear Ragland's voice in my head over and over ... and over.

During camp, he was asked about stopping the run and he said, "We'll stop that run. We'll stop that run sh*t."

I think he was talking about stopping the run, but now I'm not so sure.

In fairness, he never guaranteed that they'd stop it within seven yards of the line of scrimmage.

It's certainly possible that's what he meant.

I'm beginning to think he was referring to himself when it's time to chase down a back in the flat.

Why run when you can aimlessly lumber about?

Hitchens is awful in space. Slightly better than Ragland. None of our LB's can play in space and our DB's somehow managed to get worse at tackling.

Marcus Peters is a better tackler than Kendall Fuller.

No way.

Hitchens and Ragland WISH they could cover and tackle as well as Parker.

Those two are trash and are the crux of this defenses' problems.

I just don't understand the model here.

Scrubs at safety, though due to injury. Not that Sorenson isn't exploitable. Who knows what Berry will look like if he ever plays. Kc has three nickelback's in Scandrick, Nelson, and Fuller. The ILB's are slow and not even particularly big. The reserve OLB's look like defensive linemen.

I mean when you look at the offense you can see that it's being built with some kind of vision behind it. I have no idea what the **** they're doing on defense. IT's just random parts cobbled together. The best players are declining veterans with injury issues (neither of whom played last night) and either KC is drafting garbage or they're shit at developing talent.

Peters was actually a GOOD tackler as a rookie. He was known for physicality as a college player. The problem with Peters wasn't that he couldn't tackle. It's that he didn't want to. At all. Ever. He probably hurt his shoulder one time and was like '**** this' at some point in his 2nd season.

Does he tackle in LA? I haven't watched.

I'm looking back now....and I'm honestly wishing that they would have switched to Mahomes last season.....Alex Smith trade be damned. It's not like Fuller is locking it down right now and that 3rd round pick ended up being what exactly?

What makes Hitchens worse is that terrible contract. They can cut Ragland and Parker yesterday and not take much of a hit. They are on the hook for at least 3 years with Hitchens. Gross

The Chiefs are playing the long game, Mr. WhiteWhale.

The idea is to force opposing DCs to prepare for a defense that can neither tackle nor rush nor defend the pass without holding. Then, in key games, we will explode on their asses with defensive highlights galore.

Admittedly, it's a risky ploy. But it might just work.

I'm about done with Anthony Hitchens. Dude misses a ton of tackles, has zero ability to match agility of the guys he faces in one-on-one tackling situations and he gets trucked by guys he shouldn't be getting trucked by.
