SFran's Walsh takes shot at KC, or is it my imagination?

Regarding the Rice-to-Oakland signing:
"The closure of this is great, and I'm glad it's the Raiders," Walsh said. "I'm glad it's close, and that he doesn't feel he's being shipped to Devil's Island somewhere in the Midwest. I think he'll do very well over there."
Was this a shot at the Montana-to-KC deal a few years ago?? I don't really give two shits what Bill Walsh thinks, I just found it interesting....

From the same article:
Noticeably absent from Tuesday's workout was veteran Tim Brown, the Raiders' marquee receiver for more than a decade.
Early signs of trouble in paradise, perhaps? That'd be a shame.... ;)

The thing about the Montana deal is that he actually chose to be traded to KC, picking us over other teams, so it's not like he was forced to the midwest...

I noticed that too derby..........interesting choice of words. Not to mention, Rice was never destined to go to the midwest. It was either Detroit or Seattle or Oakland ;)

That's probably a shot at Detroit, not a shot at Kansas City.

I thought the exact same thing with Walsh's statement. I am not for 100% sure that he was refering to KC but I am leaning towards that he did. What did he mean by Devils Island? Could he have meant a KC is Devils Island in a Sea of Red. Who knows, who cares. But it kinda makes me wonder is this what other teams think about my beloved Chiefs?

No, but unfortunately, it is what a lot of California people think of Kansas City. That's why teams like the Raiders have an edge over us in recruiting, because NoCal is a more "desirable" place to live in terms of the athlete who is looking for "good food" and "multiple activities."

It'll be interesting to see if D'Marco Farr chooses to pick up his family and move back to his home base in NoCal to play for the Raiders, or stay put in Missouri and play for us (assuming we even offered him a contract like was rumored)...

I forgot to explain why I think he was referring to Detroit: First we weren't in the running, so it makes no sense, and second, I believe the Devil's Island reference is Walsh saying that the city of Detroit is like a prison in the midwest, due to its high reported levels of crime, murder, etc. I don't think he was taking a potshot at KC at all, although I can see how/why folks here would construe it as such. We're not the only city in the midwest, you know, and the football world doesn't exactly revolve around us...

I find it quite ironic that he makes this Devil's Island analogy regarding a player who's going to Oakland, of all places...

Because there's nothing else to talk about.

Thanks for the "useful insight" though.

Just wondering. Thanks for the "prickly" sarcasm, though.

What are you people THINKING!?!

Rice is MUCH better off playing for a team that sued the NFL, BENCHED a future HOF rb, dumped a top ten NFL coach, lost to a "Devil's Island" team 18 straight, grabbed such "character" playes as Jano and Rison, and failed to do anything important since Libya got bombed....
